Story

Why the name, 7 Monks Taproom?

Trappist beer are ales brewed by or under control of Trappist monks. Yes, we said monks. There were a total of 174 Trappist monasteries worldwide (as of April 2011); only seven (six in Belgium and one in the Netherlands) produced Trappist beer and were authorized to label their beers with the Authentic Trappist Product logo. Hence the name during 2011 when we first opened.

We love beer. Our beer flows from 46 taps and our ever-changing bottled beer selection. We consistently serve seasonal craft beers from Michigan and around the world.

Come try our food...it's delicious and a lot of it is local! Oh, we also have wine, cider, and local mead on tap.

We visited 7 monks on a Saturday evening. We found a table to sit by the window, so that was great because as the night progressed it was standing room only. We ordered the Mac n cheese (good), and the fish and chips(good). The food was a little pricey for just good. On the menu was a beer, nutter your business. Had it once before and loved it! Tried to order it and was told they were out of that beer. Then she scratched off four more beers that they were out off. Very disappointed! My biggest complaint was the ordering process. Each time one of us wanted to order a beer or food we had to go up to the bar, which was really crowded. Shoulder to shoulder with people literally pushing to get to the bar to order. It is a terrible ordering process. We liked the vibe but had to work way to hard to get food and beer. There are several other places downtown where food is fantastic, and beer is easier to attain. We left and finished our night at another place downtown where it was much easier to get drinks.

Loved the food and the great beer selection, but the music was too loud for conversation. The bacon jam burger was amazing, as were the French fries with garlic aioli. We just wished the ambiance was a little better.

Traverse City has sooooo many bars, breweries, wineries, tasting rooms etc... In order to stand out, you either have to be cornerstone establishment or offer exceptional service. The staff knew there products and were very happy to make recommendations based on my dates preferences. Pricing was as expected for craft Brew. Best if all we could actually have a conversation without screaming.

Man this place rocks! The burgers are soooo good. Great beer selection. Occasional live music. Great atmosphere. Staff seem to authentically enjoy what they do.

One of the best burgers East of California. Service was excellent. Beer was great. Downtown Traverse. What's not to love.
