We have always enjoyed going to this shop in the past......but.....no more!!! On a recent visit to the bakery we noticed the man behind us was eating some soup he had purchased there. My husband loves that particular soup so he told the woman (owner) that he would like some to go! Requested that she put it in the cup but leave the lid off until we left to go home so it would cool down for the ride home and he would heat it up later! Simple request we thought? The next thing we know she is muttering under her breath, banging pots and pans around in the kitchen and poured the soup back in the pot. I paid my bill at the end and told her not to forget to add my husband's soup on the bill!! At this point she informed me that she would not allow my husband to purchase the soup and walked away!!! I was dumb founded......but I assure you.......WE WILL NOT GO BACK THERE!!! Very rude staff!!! I felt like we were in an old Steinfeld Episode and she was the Soup Nazi. "NO SOUP FOR YOU".

Well, to start, I am the guy that was behind Ellen Obrien and her husband eating soup (from the previous post). Yes, she did pour the soup back but there was much more to the goings on that day. In fact, I am floored that this situation of local tough love turned into a bad review. What the heck guys! If I wrote a review of Ellen, well let’s just say she had much more genuine distain for her own husband. He was easy going, jovial and didn’t complain which is why the soup want sold to them. If he had spoken up, she would have fulfilled the order, no doubt. Remember, they work long hard hours on all you can get there so don’t waste their time. It's my guess they won’t stand for it. And yes, there is a little bit of soup Nazi-ish-ness going on there if you don’t watch what you say. That’s not something you’ll experience every day and only because the soup IS THAT good! About the 45 Market Street Bakery, the owners Cheryl and Celeste ....and New Hampshire. This place is almost right on the boarder of Maine and totally bordering on changing the foodie reputation, or lack thereof with respect to food in our predominantly vacation state. All we can really claim in NH is an improved hot dog by frying a top loaded bun in butter on each side. Now I’ll be the first to admit that this makes it 100s of time better, but…… it’s still a hot dog for crying out loud! Remember, we have mountains, lakes and rivers…..that’s it. Vermont got maple syrup, Maine got lobsters and lobster rolls. Boston got beans. We got tourism and hot dog buns in butter. ...... and now Cheryl and Celeste and their bakery in Somersworth. This bakery threatens New Hampshire’s long standing (and embarrassing) reputation by making some of the most incredible foods! I’m not going to go into details about each one but if you fancy really awesome eats, GO! EAT, REVEL in their efforts! These two ladies have been making soups, sandwiches; knock your socks off baked goods and so much more for 10+ years and more in a previous location. They don’t get up every day to make just ok stuff. I found them over 10 years ago and have wanted to go back ever since but I live MUCH further north. Last week was my 1st chance in a long time. TOO long I say! The soup was just as awesome. The Apple pies are gooie-wet with cinnamon and dripping with love throughout! Everything there screams "I'M YUMMY!!!!" If your Mom is gone and you miss her cooking, these ladies might not hold your hand but they will feed you like only Mom could! .... but remember to be NICE!
