22 Church St - Permanently Closed

I don't know how anyone can review this place. My wife and I have tried to call/go on website it says it's open when we went it was closed. Tried at least 4 different occasions never trying again.

Seems like it might become a victim of its own success. Rather packed with patrons when we arrived for our 7:30 reservation, and we waited about 15 minutes for a seat. Some others who arrived at the same time waited for about 40 minutes. We ordered drinks and had pleasant conversation while we waited for our meals. And waited. We ate some complimentary garlic bread that was obviously a 'don't worry we haven't forgotten about you' gesture. And we waited. And waited. It finally arrived, and it was excellent. Cozy little place, and quite a few of the diners seemed to be regulars judging by their familiarity with the staff. Overall a pleasant experience, but if we go again we'll try to determine a less hectic time. Be warned, Saturday evenings are perhaps not the best time if you're in a hurry.

My husband and I went for an anniversary dinner. After an hour of waiting no one had come by to explain the delay so I flagged our waitress to see when we could expect our salads. We were told the kitchen was backed up, but no apology was given. We got our salads within about 10-15 minutes of this and to be fair, they were nice. We waited another 30 minutes for steaks before asking to leave and pay for what we had eaten. At this point we had been at the restaurant for 2 hours. Our waitress was very apologetic in the end and told us that the restaurant had been overbooked. From what I gathered this is a pretty frequent occurrence. Management never spoke to us, even after we asked to leave. I always think that a bad experience can turn into a positive one with good management; it was disappointing that management had no concern that we were choosing to leave. We won't likely return.

My boyfriend took me here for an early Valentines Day dinner, and it was perfect. The steak was delicious and the atmosphere was very romantic. The staff was very attentive too. I recommend this for anyone looking to bring a date!

Don't judge a book by its cover - or a restaurant by its exterior (which is fine by the way)- 22 Church St is a great restaurant in the Durham region. The food is tasty and the service is professional. If you don't like the outside of a place you might just miss out on some fantastic restaurants - ever hear of Jiro Dreams of Sushi - Jiro's restaurant is a Michelin 3 Star restaurant (highest rating btw) - in a subway station in Japan -with no washroom on premises - tell me you wouldn't go there?!!! I would in a heart beat! Back to 22 Church St - I like that the place is cozy and that you have to make a reservation. They are obviously doing something well.
