I don't feel that this bar is open to all members of the LGBTQ community. I recently visited with my fiance and was ignored by the bartender and given many dirty looks from male gay customers. I've yet to find lesbian bar in New Haven and thought that York Street Cafe would at least be a safe place to quietly get a beer with my fiance among other queers. Instead I felt shamed and ostracized for being a woman. Maybe they assumed I was straight. It's misogyny either way you look at it.

Service is quite good and the food is more than adequate. Not the best pizza in the world but it is certainly serviceable and their grinders are filling.
