Excellent service. Friendly staff and we got a nice table right in front of the cooking area. The rice balls were too salty and we end up sending them back. The staff redo and they are perfect. Will definitely go back.
Everything hit the spot, extensive drinks menu, food is top quality and noticeably fresh. I'm very picky on scallops and that was the only thing that could have used some extra punch or modifications at least maybe under this setting , a barbecue focused menu, and secondly the salt balance between skewers was up and down but again nothing to keep me from coming back for more. Some very nice small touches as well, around service and atmosphere made it a special place, loved how easy it was to order using a paper menu especially good for big parties and Wait for the surprise! Greetings ;. Great for a unique date night, an engaging work lunch.
As others have mentioned, the skewers could've been better seasoned and the price could be better. Yuzu soda tasted like syrupy marmalade and soda water but there was hardly any fizz. I sincerely believe everything was prepared with care. The staff was very enthousiastic and welcoming, almost infectious. I wouldn't go there as a main meal as the dishes can add up to get filled. Overall, it's a great experience to go with friends. Might need a reservation.
Great place for some late night drinks tasty cocktails and Izakaya food. Grabbed a bit of everything and everything was spot on except for the scallops, just grab the similarly priced wagyu skewer instead. Just remember that the food may take a while as they grill and cook them to order and comes in smaller servings so make sure to bring good company while enjoying the beverages.
Amazing atmosphere. Fast service. Good food. Ordered for 2 people and this was more than enough! We got the zakkushi set, takoyaki, and kaarage don. Any chicken piece that went in my mouth was soft, juicy and tender. Very delicious. Would come back again. Just keep in mind that last call is at 10:00PM.
First time to the Queen St location of this well reviewed izakaya, the Carlton St location never disappoint, this one is still able to keep most of the positivities, except 1 dish grilled rice ball was super salty and we had to send it back. Other than that I find ambience and seating better than the other location, not as loud, and actually able to talk and not feel as cramped and rushed maybe because we went on a Sunday evening.
Raw and classic Japanese IZAKAYA vibe, had monk fish liver, tako wasabi, skewer platter, O den, karaage, tofu & eggplant. Every dish was good except the skewer was so so and it was serve warm, and the flavour was not so outstanding as it is a IZAKAYA. Also should update sake menu if item were out of stock or inform the customer in advance so we don’t order the out of stock item for few times .Other then that service was amazing, we had a great time there
Took an hour to get a table but once we sat the service was quick. The ambience of the place is a bit dark. I really enjoyed the variety of options they had from the menu. I was really impressed with the duck breast.
Would Return. Would recommend. First - they use charcoal to prepare their skewers, giving all of them an amazing smokey aroma and the high heat ensures that there's a good amount of char, without making your meat dry. Good tap. Vibes are good, you'll have a great food experience here.
Went here for a Halloween celebration. For the price, the quality of food didn't measure up. At $18 Oct 2022, the price of 5 sticks of yakitori in the Zakkushi set could get me a full meal elsewhere and they should be mindblowingly good. Unfortunately they were not. They were not seasoned well and did not taste like they belonged in a cohesive set. Instead, they were more like 5 random sticks with experimental flavors. The basic yakitori stick was very bland. The plum one stuck out like a sore thumb as a sudden jolt of sourness. The beef/steak one was too chewy. The best of the bunch was the pork belly, but with how naturally flavorful pork belly is, it's hard to get it wrong. What frustrated me the most was the lack of the smoky, chargrilled flavor that's characteristic of yakitori. Since I couldn't see them grilling the sticks in front of me, I'm not sure they still use a real charcoal grill... Honestly what I enjoyed most was not even yakitori but the yaki onigiri. You don't find it easily in Toronto and I thought the soy sauce flavor worked really well with the grilled rice. It was also priced fairly at least compared to the rest of the menu. Drinks were ok. Definitely not the best cocktails I've had as they tasted like a beginner's intro to cocktails - a tad too sweet with not enough alcohol. It tasted more like a mocktail. Anyway, I'm a little letdown by this place as I love izakayas. The atmosphere was great but the food and drinks just missed the mark.
