YMCA Camp Michikamau

I went there as a child, it was horrible and I was traumatized. I was not aloud to call my mother to come get me when I didn't want to be there anymore. My best friend was lucky enough to get ahold of her mother to come up and get her. When I asked her mom to​ bring me home also, they refused to let her call my mother. I was not miserable because I was in the mountains I was miserable because I was pushed down a rock hill by a councillor, was not aloud to swim in the deeper area even though I was a strong swimmer, another camper whipped and choked me with a plastic jump rope, and I developed a lovely bed wetting problem and was made to sleep on soiled bedding, after the first 4 days I cried myself to sleep the for the rest of the two weeks I was there.this happened almost 20 years ago and i still have nightmares. I am a mother now and because of this place I will never in a million years send any of my children to any sleep away camp. What happened to me was unexcusable. I truly hope this place has changed for the better.

When here a couple years ago, was great, lots of great and friendly people. It was like a second family, a second home.

Great camp! Beautiful lake, amazing people, non-stop fun! Memories and friends that will last for a lifetime. Like a second home, if not a first.

Camp Michikamau is a great place for learning about the wilderness, individuality, community, and diversity, but it is also a great place for children to swim, boat, hike, rock climb, and other fun activities. Camp Michikamau easily becomes second home filled with lifelong memories and friends.
