Highly recommended, I was travelling to Canada for my holiday and as a climber wanted to ensure I could sample the Rockies. Via Yamnuska I was able to arrange a great day sampling multi and single pitch climbing. Communication was simple and clear, although they welcome engagement and therefore I was able to refine my ask more and confirm details so I can ensure my insurance covered the activity something that I'd recommend checking for. I went out with Shaun who was friendly and helpful, making it more relaxed and able to answer any of my questions on the route and area.
Great experience, had splended time with Ben and learned so much! We asked around for multipitch courses and could not find a any available, then reached to Yamnuska Center, Ariana answered promptly and we had a course scheduled within a week in August! It was exhausting, but 2 days where Ben tried to share as much as we could grasp. The very first day, we tried an easy 3 pitch climb under his supervision and It was a great start to practise what he taught us. Then next day, there was more theory and longer multipitch in 3 people. Even though it was a rainy weekend, Ben with his supervisor try hard not to make us wet and indeed we stayed dry while climbing! Ben is a great instructor as he knows so much about climbing and such. Was also great chat we had and we got great recommendation for other routes. Good luck with everything Ben!
5 Stars is not enough to rate our trip as an ExplorerChick group of 10 determined women with varying skill levels. Our super-awesome guides Corinna and Amanda were cheerful, encouraging, goofy and super-inspiring. We felt very secure in their more-than-capable hands. They led us through XC skiing and the uphill snowshoe climb to the Elizabeth Parker Hut with tips on avalanche awareness, winter layering, snack management, impact minimization and technical expertise. I speak for the whole group when I say we were all honored to have met such great and humble women.
Went ice climbing and it was fantastic. Our guide Chhering was phenomenal, him teaching us was the equivalent of Michael Jordan teaching us basketball. He was super prepared and friendly. When we're back in the area we will be using him again.
Went Ice Climbing for the first time with Carl. Carl’s knowledge, expertise and teaching style was truly world class. I felt safe the whole time. He was able to efficiently and effectively deliver the training so that we were ascending 25+ metre, 4 minus rated pitches in one day. Very professional business, would not consider anyone else when it comes to outdoor adventure. Thank you Carl and Yamnuska.
Great experience. Took the 2 day basic ice climbing course with Jacob as our guide, along with Braeden and Peter. The experience was phenomenal and the instruction was even better. It was clear that the guides were knowledgeable and experienced, and Jacob took feedback from the group to curate the course specifically to our skill level. Would definitely recommend yam to a friend and will be taking more courses here in the future.
I have done a number of mountaineering courses and programs including private guiding with Yam over the last year and a half. I have been beyond impressed with the quality of the guides I have been with 7 different guides and their commitment to our safety and learning. The guides are absolutely world class! Every program I have done with them has been a trip of a lifetime. The courses are packed with information but is taught in sections so it is not overwhelming and the guides have the answers to any questions you might have. I have learned so much in such a short period of time. I have gained so much confidence in the mountains and know that I have been taught the best practices. The guides often ask the students if they want to take the lead on summit days. Walking through trip planning, route finding, hazard mitigation and risk management with a guide is absolutely an invaluable experience. One of the most incredible days I have ever had was when our guide asked if I wanted to lead our Intro to Ski Mountaineering group up the steep snow section to the summit of St. Nickolas Peak! I smiled so much that day that I got a sunburn on the roof of my mouth from the sun's reflection off the Wapta Icefield! What a day! Rod and his team do a fantastic job in the kitchen making sure we are all well fueled up for big days in the mountains. Keep the fresh food coming! Even the Pine Martens love Rod’s food... I did a number of private programs during COVID and the guides followed social distancing when possible and we put on our masks when it was not possible like at a belay stance when rock climbing. COVID adds another layer for the guides to consider on top of the usual hazard and risk management in the mountains and I was very impressed with their commitment to keeping us safe. I cannot recommend Yam enough! Thanks to the entire Yam team for everything over the last year and a half! I will be back for more this winter! Most of the photos are pre COVID
Took the AST-1 training Nov 2022 in Calgary and Bow Hut area. Fantastic learning provided. I highly recommend Yamnuska. The training provider / guides are top notch with tones of real world experience. Look forward to AST-2 with the Yamnuska folks!
Definitely a fun experience! Our guide, Larry, was awesome. Very informative and answered all of our questions. All the gear needed for climbing is provided. We headed to King's Cove, it was about a 30 minute hike til Larry found a suitable climbing area. We're both rookie climbers but Larry pushed us to try our hardest and we both made it to the top. It was awesome and would recommend everyone to try it at least once
What an incredible hiking trip YAM pulled together for us. 4 days in the high alpine near the Campbell Ice Field, including hikes on glaciers. Getting 8 kids ages 4 to 11 up on mountain summits and on a ice field is not an easy feat! A very memorable experience, made even better by the guiding and food services teams provided by YAM. Friendly, knowledgeable, professional... I would use them again in a heartbeat.
