I wanted so much for this place to be good as it’s been around for decades. My Bavarian cream donut was a little tough and doughy. The chocolate frosting was slightly gritty and the filling was thick and tasteless. The coffee might have been good, but it tasted watered down and they had no half and half or dark chocolate for a mocha Breve. Disappointed.
I lived in the Twin Cities for 14 years. In that time I discovered the best bakery with the most amazing white cake with butter cream frosting, Wuollet! For years I held their cake up as the gold standard of all cakes of this type. I would buy it and take it with me out of state and even had my friend send it to me in the mail after I moved. Usually most of the cake survived the journey in tact but even if it got jostled too much and half of it was a pile of rubble, I didn't care because the taste was magnificent and most of the ornate and beautiful roses and flowers survived the trip. Now, forget about buying this cake! I don't have enough words to describe how disappointing even looking at it is. I should have know the moment the cake was picked up. What was once a beautifully decorated masterpiece looked like a grade schooler's art project. Seriously, I felt like I entered the Twilight Zone when I saw it. I specifically ordered a cake decorated like usual and like the one shown on the website. What I got was quite different. The flowers were dark purple and dark blue and orange and red and looked like someone rolled out playdough and then placed on top of the cake with cheesy hard sprinkles throughout. When I tasted the cake I knew immediately something was wrong. The icing was not the usual delectable butter cream taste that I was used to There may still be some butter cream in the mix but it also tasted like Crisco or some type of shortening was added. The consistency of the cake itself is also "off." It's also not as dense as it used to be. The end result is an overpriced, horribly decorated cake that tastes average at best. I gave a piece to my mom who also loves the cake as much as I do and she had similar thoughts as mine. " Meh..." I can get a better looking and better tasting cake at my local grocery store. My advise is to save yourself the disappointment and money and shop elsewhere. When I called the bakery the CSR was very kind and lovely and took good care of me with a refund. She told me that my phone order made no mention of the how I wanted the cake decorated by the way I mentioned that twice to the person taking my order. As for the taste, well, who would have ever guessed that the new owners would have changed the recipe! If you are a fan of their cakes from yesteryear, look for a new bakery. I can't speak to the retail coffee and pastry end of things or other bakery items, but as far as my prized white cake with butter cream frosting goes, it is an epic failure
Milk not on the menu, but they'll pour you a glass. Almond pastry mighty good. WiFi strong, get password from cashier.
Nope. Help that isn't interested in helping. Had the donut that need 8 secs in a microwave to freshen up, but...they don't have a microwave. Who doesn't have a microwave? Really? Coffee was ok. Just ok. Not what you would expect from a family bakery.
Need some bakery goods. This is a good spot to get them. Yummy looking sweet goods sold here. Cupcakes, donuts, cookies, pies cakes, bread and more. Good coffee and friendly service. Convenient parking right in the heart of downtown Robbinsdale..
Great local bakery with friendly staff and delish treats this is a go to for pastries breads and cakes across the metro. My favorite is the cinnamon apple cream cheese danish!
My husband purchased a chocolate birthday cake from here. I love chocolate cake, but this cake was plain bad. It had two of the densest, most flavorless ‘chocolate’ layers I’ve ever had, separated by a layer of putty-like chocolate icing, topped with more grainy, putty-like icing. The chocolate flavor was nonexistent and the cake itself was so dense and heavy, it was like eating a rubber eraser. For $60, the cake was an expensive mistake.
I've lived in Robbinsdale for 5 years but never got the chance to stop in until today. I wasn't sure what to get so I asked what their best item was and they gave me a slice of Princess cake I think it was called. I was a little hesitant because I'm not really a big cake person but decided if the employees recommend it, I better give it a shot. OH. MY. WORD. It was AMAZING. Probably the best piece of cake I have ever had. All the flavors and textures were just perfect. I think it's safe to say I'm a cake convert.
This bakery has really gone downhill from years prior under a different owner. The new owners of the bakery changed all the recipes of the products and they don’t taste good. I used to get carrot cake cupcakes and cake all the time but they changed it adding nuts which I don’t mind but they didn’t warn anyone and the frosting which I was so sad about. It tastes way more like straight cream cheese. Not good. The caramel pecan croissant roll used to be to DIE FOR. I went this morning and there literally was no caramel on the top like usual and it looked white not golden brown like usual. Everything in the case looked dry and unappealing. Stock was low a customer before me was asking for a specific item and they just didn’t have it and so they all left without buying anything. The cupcakes used to be a regular size but they made them smaller not quite bite size but really close to. The prices are high for the quality to be so low. I ordered a cake back in April for a birthday they messed up the writing and color. Honestly Cub foods has a better bakery selection and quality then this supposed old school from scratch bakery. I think this is the last nail in the coffin for me sadly.
What a wonderful bakery. We were looking for a bakery to try something new on our road trip and found Wuollet Bakery. We had their valentine sugar cookies, chocolate croissant, Maple pecan danish, and maple bacon donut. All were so delightful. I highly recommend!
