The staff is very friendly. The food is questionable at times. My child has special needs and buffets offer a lot of choices that makes eating out a lot easier. But once we found a Word Buffet in Madison we opt to drive there even though it's much further away. It's nice that a small town like Monroe has this option for those with big tummies and small wallets.
To me, it's usually very good. I seem to mix a lot of different things on the plate after I get it to my table and with the sauce mixture I usually enjoy what I get. They know it because I usually let them know. They usually come around and ask if I need more to drink and talk to me about anything. They are all pretty good at getting things taken care of for you. They do cook out what you need or want from the grill in front of you, if that is what you want.
My first time here, my two boys had been previously. They said it used to have more food options and the food was better- I hope so because they food was not good or fresh, and there weren't many options. Service was fine. We're not going back- would have enjoyed fast food more and for less money.
The last time we stopped in to eat was on a Monday afternoon around 1:30 pm our waitress was very good and kept our table cleared and the pop filled. The issue we had was with some of the foods and the salad fixings. The Green Olives were on the mushy side, the egg rolls were overdone and not hot anymore, the chicken Teriyaki on a stick were dry and overdone, the Garlic Bread was cold, and the Ribs did not have much of a flavor and they were just warm. This is by far the worse meal we have ever had at World Buffet.
My mom and I try to get here when it's just opening or right around dinner time. If you get there during this time, the food is hot and excellent. If you don't, its spotty on level of freshness. Soon as something finally runs out whether it be on the buffet for awhile or something that gets ate fast, there quick to replace it with fresh food. As long as you time it out right you'll have a great experience. The staff is semi friendly, mind you there culture differs from most of ours, so I feel they do a great job. We stopped in last night and everything was perfect! Dinner for 2 on the buffet will run ya about $13-$15 a person. And even though they dont take your order they do grab your sodas and clean your plates in between trips back and forth from the buffet so we always leave a tip, I mean, after all it is a reatraunt! The place is always clean and neat as well! I'm not to fond of mongolian but they do cook mongolian food to order right in front of you if your into that kind of thing!
ALL the food was old and lukewarm. Every single dish. The fried shrimp was so old and dry, it was shriveled. Even the pudding was old and smelled of mildew. Fully half the raw fruit was spoiled. The staff was just ok. The Mongolian grill cook was friendly and competent, but even the raw ingredients at the grill were old and not kept adequately chilled. Simply awful. We really wanted to like this place.
World Buffet is an inexpensive Chinese and American food buffet. If you are expecting fancy food, you will be sadly dissappointed. The trick is to get there as soon as they open. There will be plenty of food and it will be relatively warm. Is it the best Chinese food? No, not by a long shot. Is it fast, you bet it is. You have to find the few things on the buffet you like and stick with what you like. You get a lot for what you pay for. It's not gourmet, but it will fill you up.
We recently went for mothers day, and it was good food, but because it was so busy we were kind of rushed out of our seating once we were almost done. Prices are a touch high, but service is great and they're attentive to customers needs usually.
The temperature of the food was just above warm which is a big concern in a buffet environment. We were there at lunch and many items seemed liked leftovers from the day before. The staff was very rude. We won't be coming back.
It's okay to get your Chinese craving in, with a lot of varieties. I question how fresh the food is. None of the desserts in the buffet is good and the American selection never tastes right. Most of the Chinese food options are good.
