Very simple restaurant with small menu. Food is good, but not great. Everything had a strong peppery taste, although it didn’t bother me much. The food is the more authentic version, with seaweed and dried shrimps in the soup. I asked them to omit the dried shrimps. The opening hours are very convenient.
The food was good, they have only a few options. I just wish they had a warning for the shrimp in the soup since it didn't say anywhere shrimp was included and since I'm not used to that type of food I didn't know what was coming in the food. Seemed like the place needed to be clean since there was a few spider webs around but other than that, it was really comfortable and cozy.
For those who were born in Shanghai, who’s mom or grandma often cooked these as they were growing up can now now find some pretty authentic Shanghainese shao mai and Wonton soup at Wonton Express, centrally located in the Shaughnessy Village.
Fresh, fast and delicious. I got the sesame classic wontons… comes with chili oil already on it. Amazing!! Will be back again soon. Another gem in the neighbourhood!
A huge disappointment, dined in and gave tips, but no water was provided and after 10 minutes of waiting no one else in the restaurant he just threw the tray onto my table. Most importantly, it feels like a ruin to northern Chinese food. There’s way too little sesame sauce and I can’t taste any salty egg yolk flavour ordered.
Enjoyed the red chili wontons. Couldn’t make my mind on what to order, and the gentleman working at the counter told me the more popular wontons are the original ones and the ones with seafood. At the end I ordered the original pork and veggies ones; the wontons tasted fine, nothing particularly special, but the red chili sauce was fantastic! I kept the red chili sauce and used it to make noodles at home and it was another delicious meal. Be prepared to wait for around 15-20 minutes while the wontons to get ready.
This place is more like a to-go spot for authentic Chinese wonton. The interior space is small and not much seats provided. You can get a bowl of freshly made wonton without waiting too long. The wonton is juicy and full of filling.
Spicy wontons are packed with flavour and gernously filled. Each wonton fills the soup spoon! Also ordered the haricot noire/black bean noodles - it's really tasty!
Best wonton soup i have had in Montreal. I get a Wonton craving every once in a while and this place definitely hit the spot. The broth has a beautiful salty/umami richness that most places don´t have. I have tried many places around Montreal to find good Wonton soup and this place ticked all the boxes. I am defintely coming back. I will say that the room was a bit barren and uninviting, so I may suggest you do take-away.
Cheap and filling, totally worth it : A lot better than other expensive dim sum restaurants!
