I have yet to visit an authentic German beer hall, but after my visit here, not only will I make a return visit, I’ll be planning to spend some time in Germany! The beer, offered in 500ml and 1L ceramic steins, was wonderful! I settled for the Biergarten Blonde. It was a wonderful lager! There’s no table service, but that’s ok! Enjoying the beers on the patio was a perfect pairing for a warm Friday evening! While the food service is a separate business, it is equally delicious! The schnitzel and the pirogies were wonderful. I must add the fully loaded schnitzel, on a bun, is hefty. You could easily share this.
A yummy spot for German fare in Ottawa. Very spacious with lots of seating and cool decor. You can order beer at the bar up front and then food at a separate counter further back. You pay and then find a spot. Noticed some board games you can borrow as well. Food was quite tasty. I got the schnitzel with the works and I liked the pickles, peppers and onions. Quite filling! We also shared some pierogies and they were standard fare. Service was quick and friendly.
I tend not to be a huge fan of German beers, but this place has me rethinking that. The decors strikes a nice balance of welcoming and no nonsense; and the food, while not fancy, totally hits the spot. Finally, don’t be afraid to get the one litre stein; the ceramic keeps it cool until the end!
Top shelf service. I wouldn't normally go out of my way for German beer as it is kinda hum-drum by today's standards for micro brewed beers, but this place is worth a visit. The schnitzel was excellent as well.
Really enjoyed my visit! I'm not a fan of beers but it was a clean, easy to drink beer. Got the schnitzel and pork perogies. Perogies were tasty with good flavor and the schnitzel was crunchy and good. Would recommend getting the perogies with sour cream.
Great taste of Bavaria in the middle of Ottawa. I’ve tried 3 different beers so far and they were all great. Love the ceramic beer steins! An authentic place and my new favourite neighborhood pub.
Was not able to try their beer freshly at the Carleton Place location and was not able to make it to a formal Oktoberfest and this was just awesome. Love having a stein and the choice between 0.5 L and 1.0 L . High quality beer and service was the right way, go to them and they will help you out. Food from the private little polish place was nice touch as well. Do get the salad and the shnitzel. We arrived from Gatineau using the bus + Otrain and it was the best idea - cause DONT DRINK AND DRIVE, FRIENDS!
A German-style beer hall, you order your beer at the first counter when you walk in, and then order your food at the second counter. Beer is positively delicious and true to style. The food is decent. The schnitzel is actually pretty good. The potato salad is made with mayo and a host of ingredients that are not traditional but it was pretty good. It's unfortunate that the smell of the deep fryer permeates the dining area which is otherwise very nice and relaxed. I'll continue to come back here.
Really tasty beer, great vibe. The food options are lacking though, I would eat first and then come here to hang out. There's a few board games available to play too.
I love everything about this place. I've been visiting Ottawa and staying nearby and popped in here a few times. The staff are great. Very helpful, knowledgeable and open to chatting about beer and food and life. The beers are super. I've tried 3 of the four and my friends have also commented that they love them. The food is great. Simple, authentic Austrian fare that goes perfectly with the big steins. I like this concept - no nonsense, counter service, great beer, friendly staff, good vibes, board games..what more could you ask for. I highly recommend everyone to venture over to this nabe and support this venture. I wish they had one in my hometown.
