As a kayak fisherman, I love Lake Wingra! It has the benefits of being in the chain of lakes nice quality, abundance, and diversity of fish but without the boat traffic. It's easy to paddle to various locations throughout the lake throughout a day of fishing, which isn't true of most of the lakes around here. It's also much deeper than other kayak friendly areas, like the upper Yahara River, which improves the quality and size of the fish. The only problem from a fishing standpoint is the sheer number of weeds that are present. While the lake gets deep towards the middle, the weeds are very thick around most of the lake. It's a frog fishing paradise, but don't expect to throw many crankbaits or traditional hook/worm combos. The good news is, even on an unsuccessful day of fishing, it's almost impossible not to have a good time paddling around this beautiful and peaceful lake.
Great place to do open water swimming and stand up paddling. The water is typically calmer than the other two lakes and motorized boats are limited from creating a wake. Be aware that there is quite a bit of weeds in shallow areas.
Great park off Monroe street. Launch is suitable for a variety of boat sizes, but great for kayaks and canoes. The lake is non-motorized so very kayak and canoe friend. Parking at the park is limited, get there early!
We love renting boats here and spending time in the lake taking in some nature and sun and not having to go far. The ice cream boat float is super fun as are all of the special events they have throughout the summer.
This is one the staple parks in Madison! Wingra Park and Boats remind me of coming here during the summer when i was a middle schooler. I also remember going paddle boating whenever i had friends come and visit me out of state! this park has a cute playground and ample fields to run around in. I think it is also a great park for having a picnic!
Spent the morning kayaking with my family this morning. Every one was very friendly and helpful. Great place for making some family memories or just relaxing on the lake.
I meet friendly guys at the park and we played soccer. The lake looks amazing. There are many fields, some for soccer, and others. Ample parking
Great place to rent a boat or bring the kids for fishing. Could be a little more kept up with the weeds and cleaner.
Had fun fishing and kayaking. A lot of weeds, though, made both a little difficult at times. Very pleasant and helpful staff, made our visit comfortable and welcome.
One of our favorite parks. Great place to go for a picnic by the lake. We also launch our Kayak here for short trips around the lake. Monroe street is nearby for custard or a snack. There are several sports fields that are fairly frequently used, but also a lot of open space for general use. Some great old oak trees on top of a hill make a great spot for a picnic with a view over the lake toward the arboretum.
