Kind of hazy with forest fire. Didn't like how they treated guests traveling there for the eclipse. It seemed that deliberately closed the only road for people to leave town under "Construction Zone" making thousands of travelers stranded in their vehicles for hours through the night. I passed across several areas that was supposed to be under construction with only signs. Not even any equipment or any signs of working people. Of course keeping all these people for an extra day would make them more money. They even set speeding traps for drivers who couldn't even go speed limits due to congested traffic, in areas that would be the only opportunity to pass the slower trucks. They knew you would try to speed up to pass. It's a shame how anyone would take adventage of people who didn't want to miss a chance of a life time. Watching the total eclipse of the Sun!

Good hikes. If you plan on doing the Oregon skyline trail starting from windigo pass TH next to the dirt road, follow the dirt road East 10 minutes n look for Cairns n a post signaling horse trail. Eventually you come to a junction. Do not follow the signs to nip and tuck lakes trail. It leads nowhere!

Big expanse of beautiful wilderness in the high desert. Great views that are breathtaking. Enjoy!

Always an inspiring place to visit even with a smokey haze from a nearby forest fire. The rim road is under construction so don't plan on getting around the crater quickly.

I am fortunate to live in an area that takes me in and out of the Winema all the time. Winema was the name of a Modoc woman who played a significant role in the Modoc Indian Wars. History might have been significantly alterted had the warriors of her tribe had listened to her. Or maybe not considering the ignorance and greed some of the white people at the time.
