The school could improve a lot, the number one problem it has is the population, it has way too many students 1500 to be specific and on average the classes are filled to the brim. Because of the high student population teachers and faculty don’t care enough at all, basically too many students to care about which is why it lacks student support. Most teachers are very nice and will treat you kindly but they are just overwhelmed with the amount of students.
The administration is seriously lacking. The application process involved answering the same questions several times, and eventually had to seek external help to complete the process. After enrolment, the issues continued. I went through various individuals and Tech Support to get request access to Brightspace at a parental level. The biology teacher insisted that I had access. I eventually reached out to the Vice Principal and was told parental access was not active, and he would research how to enable and get back to me. 3 months later and no follow-up. I expressed concern that live stream of all classes weren't available when students had to quarantine in the height of the Covid pandemic and received a call from the VP. She was parking simultaneously, so it was a very disjointed conversation. The school sends consistent communication, but most of it is repeated alerts like on drop off zones and Covid pre-screening. They have means to communicate to parents yet sent no notice of the planned parent/teacher conference. This oversight is baffling. One bright spot: Mr Leder, guidance counsellor. He works efficiently and goes above and beyond because he clearly cares about doing a great job and helping students.
Way too much work is shoved onto the students. You shouldn't have to be met with 4 deadlines as soon as you return from a mental hospital. Do better.
As a recent university graduate who went to Mackenzie, I can proudly say that Mackenzie thought me well! The teachers are one of a kind. If it was not because of them I would have not done great in university. I do also agree that the facility is not great but it is actually better than average.
A school with lots of specially programsMacs, gifted... and all kinds of clubs. They managed well during pandemic. Hopefully it'll get reopened soon and we can all go back to normal life.
