Story

White Rock Optometry Clinic has been serving the White Rock, South Surrey, and surrounding area since 1982. The doctors and staff of White Rock Optometry take pride in providing an eye care experience like none other.

We have 6 optometrists that provide comprehensive eye health examinations. Our doctors work with all ages of patients, from as young as six months old. Our office uses the most up to date technology. We were the first optometry office in Canada to include Optomap imaging as part of the pre-screening during an eye exam.

Come on in to browse our optical showroom that carries frames and lenses to suit a variety of styles and needs. We also have a Sunglass Cove with sunglass brands such as Maui Jim, Kaenon, Fendi, and Ray-Ban. Our opticians are here to help you select a pair of glasses to help you look and see your best.

Our office provides a full range of contact lens services. We have the latest in daily disposables as well as lenses to correct astigmatism and harder to fit prescriptions.

We make it our policy to ensure that all staff members are up-to-date on the latest technology and techniques to make your visit as comfortable and effective as possible. Our team finds it exciting to be a key part of a progressive, leading edge practice. We know that technology can be overwhelming for some patients. Our doctors, receptionists, optical assistants, contact lens technicians, and opticians are here to make sure that you are informed and feel welcome.

I broke my glasses and went back to the clinic to see if they could be repaired. My lenses were fine but the frames were beyond repair. Emma was very caring and helpful and with Eric’s assistance, they both went above and beyond to find me a frame to fit my lenses that worked to tide me over until my next eye exam at their office in a few months. Kudos to White Rock Optometry Clinic with excellent Doctors and incredible front line employees.
Dr. Chin was very understanding, friendly and patient. Our English isn’t very well but she helped us. Thank you. COVID measures were also very careful.
I give it a one because the fees were not explained when bringing in my children. I was not told that a Full exam is not covered by BC Health, only a regular exam. I was not offered a full or regular exam at the time of booking, I was not told that the remaining $56/child might not be able to be claimed in insurance- when making my appointment they didn’t even ask who my insurance was through to see if it would be claimable or not. They knew we had just moved out of province. They told to contact my insurance provider to see instead of telling me themselves that not all plans cover a full exam. I feel very let down, and taken advantage of that this was not explained to me! I already cancelled my own appointment and will not be going back with my kids.
The Drs are good as far as I am concerned but the other group need work. Bought glasses from them two years ago and I broke the frame, so on May 13 I go in to try and get a new frame. Sorr,y they do not make that frame anymore, I would then like a metal frame, Oh that will mean you have to have a new set of glasses. So I pay another $600 and you can expect the new pair in 10 days, we will call you. Month goes by no call, my Wife calls, there is a problem with the mfg. After two visits and two calls and 6 weeks I get a call your glasses are in. I say it has been 6 weeks with no glasses, she says " Then you must be really anxious to get these" and then tells me I had better get in as they are closed, for the long weekend. Very poor in my view. Where is the follow up May 13 to June 29.
for this place. They always treat me great. Front desk is excellent. Since I don't use contacts that often they just gave me a few packs for free! This all female office is fantastic. I was a patient of Dr. Ertel eons ago, and this place has kept hed high standards.
Pretty good as far as an optometrist visit goes. Dr Saran was nice, got my prescription, picked out some glasses. Ready In a few days. My experience was great
I have never written a review but I feel like I had to warn against this office. Just to note: I am using a fake name to protect my identity. I had been with White Rock Optometry for the last 10 years and have only recently switched optometrists Island Eyecare because I had moved to Vancouver Island. When I switched optometrists, I realized how poor the service was here. I have had poor eyesight since I was born so I had surgery when I was a child, have been wearing glasses my whole life, have had contacts for two years now, and have been routinely going to the optometrist at least annually. For starters, in my experience, THEY DO NOT DEAL WITH INSURANCE DIRECTLY. I have had to PAY IN FULL and submit my insurance claims myself every time, which was a nightmare considering the nature of the insurance plan I am on. I did not realize that this was not normal. My new optometrist at Island Eyecare took the time to sort out all the finances themselves and, even though they could not figure it out in the end and I have to reach out to my insurance company myself to get it sorted, they only made me pay a deposit until this problem can be fixed. At my new optometrist's office, I have received tests I had never received in my life, despite the fact that I have been legally blind in one of my eyes since birth. My prescription was off and I learned that I am probably not a good candidate for laser eye surgery which was disappointing, considering that none of the optometrists I had at White Rock Optometry had told me this after I had asked about it every visit in the last few years. I learned that the contacts that were fitted to me at White Rock Optometry were expensive, even though the technology was outdated by 5 or 6 years. On top of that, my eyes are incredibly dry because of these ill-prescribed contacts and I have to apply intensive eyedrops for the next few weeks to repair the damage. I am a student and my new optometrist took this seriously, giving me new contacts and glasses that aid with reading. This is a concern that was never addressed at White Rock Optometry. In summary, in my extensive experience with White Rock Optometry, they did not make me feel listened to and valued and did not care about how much I was paying, despite the fact that the lenses they prescribed to me were more expensive than the lenses that were best for my eyes. I WOULD STRONGLY ADVISE TO AVOID.
I’ve been seeing Dr. Donaldson for years and take my daughter here as well. Dr. Donaldson is always excellent. I truly appreciate her professionalism but she’s also just fun to have the appointment with. The eye glass staff are helpful and make finding great frames easier. It’s amazing watching them. They know their products so well, then pick through all the inventory to find just the right handful to try on. It’s great having a high quality neighbourhood service that is so well rounded. Highly recommend.
I always have a great experience and I've been coming here since I was little. Dr. Grewal has been my optometrist for years and takes amazing care of my eyes. The entire team is always professional and helpful. Thank you for the great service!
I've been going to WR Optometry Clinic for at least 15 years. My appointment wait times have always been kept within a few minutes. To me, that says they're very organised. They have a lot of sophisticated, specialised equipment and are able to look and provide services that are more than just a prescription for eye glass lens. That's important to me because of my long history of symptomatic ocular hypertension. I recently got back from an emergency appointment. I was able to see the doctor within a couple of hours.
