Well, I know that criticizing the police is in vogue now, just think of where we would be without them! They've dealt with my son many times in a very humane and concerned manner as he is severely mentally ill. The training that Waukegan officers go through is much better than a lot of the surrounding communities, more than likely because of the diversity on the department and of the city itself. I will say I've come to know many of the officers over the years, and they are definitely a decent lot, I respect to the difficulty of their job as it tends to be thankless. It's nice to know that if you pick up the phone and dial 911, you can have someone come and be your advocate in a crisis situation. My son is African-American, I have never seen any hint of discrimination or conduct unbecoming of an officer during any interaction with him. This definitely is completely opposite of the Libertyville Police Department, if you want to criticize, look West.

I moved to Waukegan from Chicago and I must give the Waukegan police department their props. There's been shooting regularly around my house our children couldn't even go outside. The police have been here everyday trying to make it safe again for our children. Then I step outside and see the police interacting with the children in a positive way tossing a football in their yard where gunshots happened a week ago. That's service! I just wanted to thank them for being here

That child that died at 3am from a gunshot is NOT an accident, it's child abuse. It's dumb parents. They should be in jail. Who has a child up at 3am near a loaded gun? Accident? NO WAY. Typical police work.

Always had bad experience with Waukegan "POLICE DEPARTMENT" Very rude team, you go to the station & theyre Long faces make you feel not wanted there, as if they're bothered that you walked in the door with hesitation to answer. I wrote them a letter 6 months ago & never got a answer back.

THE WORST DEPT IN LAKE COUNTY. I received a very expensive parking ticket one night about a month ago for parking in a spot on a side street where apparently there was a "handicapt parking" sign. The sign was COMPLETELY HIDDEN by trees on both sides. I tried to contest the ticket by mail (WITH PICTURES) and it was denied. I then called to state my case verbally, and after speaking to someone unbelievable rude who obviously didn't have the least bit of concern for me or my problem, I was told that my only other option was to go to court and pay mandatory court fees of $250, THE EQUIVALENT OF THE ORIGINAL TICKET. I've come to the conclusion that the city of Waukegan (especially it's police department) could care less about people's legitimate concerns and cares ONLY about gouging people out of their money. I'm so certain of this that I could present an ENDLESS amout of evidence to their court exonerating me and would still be found liable, thus being out of $500. It is obvious that all they want to do is trap prople by hiding signs and then gouging them out of their money. And that's just when it comes to parking tickets.
