Really relaxing and friendly environment at this museum. We are lucky to have it right here in Kitchener. It's a very well organized space with activities and things to see and do for all ages. I highly recommend this place if the fast pace of modern life is overwhelming you, just walk through the old village and transport yourself back to 1914 when life was much simpler :
This is a great place to bring kids, or even to explore as adults. The village and museum are open to the general public all the time, but they also run educational programs for schools and camps, which are fantastic. I've visited many times and have always enjoyed my time there. This last visit I went with my daughter's class field trip. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and engaging. All the stops we visited had relevant hands-on activities that kept the kids engaged. The program was very educational and has evolved over the years to be more representative of all the people who have lived in the area. It used to be very Euro-centric and only focused on European settles, but now there is discussion of Black settlers and Indigenous people as well, which is great to provide a holistic view of the time period. Even though this is a period village based on early 20th century life, where accessibility wasn't even an afterthought, the Region of Waterloo has done a great job of adding ramps to buildings where they could. There are, of course, houses that have narrow and/or steep staircases to get to the second floor, but accessibility where feasible has been made a priority. The museum next to the village is a modern and fully accessible facility. The museum has great exhibits, which rotate out to provide new experiences on different visits. They are well thought out, professional, and provide great insight into our local history. There are events run throughout the year, such as the Country Christmas, and Doon by Lantern Guided Tour, which is always popular and sells out quickly. Again, I've visited many times, both with and without kids, and I have always enjoyed my time there. Very much recommended.
One of the best museums in Ontario for sure. The indoor gallery and heritage houses are all amazing. A lot of cool exhibits and interesting things to discover. If you get used to the traditional big museum like ROM, you will absolutely be surprised by the immersive experience this museum offers. I will come back for revisit and spend a whole day in there.

Our grandkids loved it . There were great informative display for the grandkids. They loved the pioneer village. The train engine was their favorites part.
Went during the week for opening with guests from out of town. Lots of great information! Very informative about our Region and information laid out very well. Spent 4 hours there...could have spent more time there with the exhibits inside and outside. Seating inside for those not able to stand for long periods of time. Will go back!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
I visited the museum with one of my friends and my kid. We absolutely had fun exploring this museum. There are so many things they tried to cover about history and old times. They also keep everything clean. They make sure to sanitize everything that is getting touched. They also have some little games like Puzzle and toy blocks for little kids/explorers. My visit to this museum for free no cost/fees because I used Canoo app at the ticket counter. I will definitely recommend visiting this museum.
Beautifully exhibted as always. I brought my family on an unpopular day and we had the place to ourselves. The only detraction was the casual supervision, as if left alone we would break something. The suspicious gaze of the museum attendant kept us from relaxing and enjoying the displays as much as we could have.
