The music department of Washtenaw International High School
The Washtenaw International High School Music Department was created in 2011 as part of the development of a new county-wide magnet International Baccalaureate program in Washtenaw County.
The program contain roughly 2/3 of the school student popular and offers courses in Instrumental Music and Vocal Music.
Band: Symphonic Band, Concert Winds, Wind Ensemble
Choir: Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Vox Humana
Orchestra: String Orchestra
Extra Curricular: Jazz Lab, Jazz Ambassadors, Octavate, WIHI Chamber Philharmonic
Students develop skills in music performance, music theory, and music composition.
There are 3-4 concerts per year with an increasing number of opportunities to perform. Concerts are held at the Ellen Ewing Center of the Performing Arts @ Saline High School.
Beginning in the 2013-2014 school year, the music department will be offering IB Music (a diploma program course) as part of the IB Diploma. This course is a 2 year sequence designed to develop skills in solo/ensemble performance, music theory, music composition, music technology, and music history.
