My wife and I drive from the Barrie area to London quite frequently.nOnce you get away from Barrie/Alliston/Orangeville there do not seem to be many/any good independent restaurants until you get to London.nWe are just not into fast food or the corporate chain restaurants.nThey all taste the same and are mostly ‘heat it up’.nWe finally found a good independent restaurant though!nVeky’s in Listowell is a hidden gem, a little off Highway 23, so we hadn’t noticed it.nThis is an old style charming restaurant with genuinely nice folks running it.nThe food is of an international flavour but you can get more standard fare too.nI had a nice house salad that included a bit of potato salad, we split some nice spring rolls you get lots, and I had the Serbian cabbage rolls with mashed potato’s and a side of sauerkraut, slightly grilled.nAll really delicious.nMy wife had the salmon chowder and a meal sized salad, both of which she said were very good.nI had a crepe with ice cream for desert, nice finish to a great meal.nLots of parking at the side of the building.nPleasant dining atmosphere and nicely spaced tables.nWe got chatting with the next table and they drive 30 minutes on a regular basis to dine here.nWe’ll definitely be back!
Great place for a meal ! The burgers were amazing so were the fries , plenty of options to choose from ! Great service too
I’ve never had a bad meal here and I’ve been dining here for years. I got the deep fried pickles and the salmon teriyaki and my friend got the fish and chip. Salmon was cooked perfect and it came with a ton of vegetables including baby corn which I don’t see in veggie blends often. Rice was cooked perfect. I was fully expecting frozen deep fried pickles which I love and was surprised they came homemade. It was a nice surprise and tasted very similar. My friends fish was breaded which I personally prefer with fresh cut fries and either homemade gravy or a gravy that tasted homemade. Overall was very pleased with the meal. Only preference would be cream coleslaw but I know lots of people like a vinegar base so it’s not a hard critique!
Decided to stop in based on a Google search of restaurants in Listowel. I liked what I saw on the menu so my friend and I tried it out. The interior is charming. Plenty of space with high bar style or low chairs. Even the washrooms are pleasantly decorated. I had the Irish potato soup, vegetable spring rolls and cordon bleu Swiss schnitzel. My friend wasn't overly hungry but had the same spring rolls and was very happy. I enjoyed every dish and certainly didn't leave hungry. Prices are reasonable and what you'd expect from this type of restaurant. The menu Is extensive so I intend on going back when I'm in the area to try a few more dishes. We also chatted at length with the owner who is a delightful, personable lady. She contributed in no small way to the enjoyment of our visit.nnWell I returned for my second visit with another friend. This time I had the escargot appetizer and a chicken parmesan as an entree. The escargot was delicious, served in a cream sauce with onions, bacon and whisky. Two generously filled bowls plus garlic bread. It's quite filling but I forged on to the chicken. Tender with a crispy coating. Linguine, decent sauce and more garlic bread. My friend said he was more than pleased with his choices. Generous serving of pork and said the Hungarian goulash was perfectly spiced and tasty. No hesitation recommending this place.nnIt's now mid August, 2023. Finally made it back to the area and I'm pleased to see that the food quality hasn't changed. Chicken Rahm. Light breading and tender white meat. Not dried out. The vegetables were perfectly done, in my opinion. Just enough bite...not mushy. Everything here has great flavor!nnHere I am again..end of July 2024. Rahm schnitzel. Very crispy coating and topped with mushroom gravy, garlic mashed with perfectly done veggies. Never a wasted trip coming here.
This place is not your conventional small town heat & serve. Made from scratch and extremely flavourful! Mladen the owner is very pleasant and waitin/host staff is kind. Get the Buttermilk chicken burger. Best chicken burger on the planet .
