I love this place the Kits library single handedly rekindled my love for reading. The inter-library loan system is super convenient and I can easily request books in any of the Vancouver branches to be picked up here. The Kits branch itself is very cozy, clean, and well-lit. It’s such a lovely space. People working there have always been very kind, welcoming, and accommodating. From what I’ve seen they offer various community programs as well and are family friendly. Just all around a cozy, welcoming safe space for everyone. Thanks to all their amazing staff for maintaining this lovely little nook of book haven!
There were 5 minutes left before the library closed. A horrible bald man with a mustache at the front desk refused to let me use the bathroom, claiming they were closed for cleaning even though a woman had just come out of them! I explained that I had a 40minute walk ahead of me and really needed to use the restroom, but he refused, saying the library was about to close even though there were still 5 minutes left. In short, it’s a great place to borrow books, but don’t ask the staff for anything! Zero points for understanding and kindness.
I visited the Kitsilano branch of the Vancouver Public Library and was extremely disappointed. For a place that’s supposed to be a library, the level of noise was unbelievable. People were speaking loudly, laughing, talking on the phone comfortably — not even whispering. Honestly, most cafés are quieter than this.nnThere were many children running around, making noise, babies crying, and strollers being wheeled through the aisles. I understand there's a children's section, but the noise carried throughout the entire space. It was impossible to concentrate, read, or work quietly.nnEven worse, the staff themselves were talking loudly and casually, contributing to the already chaotic environment. There seems to be no effort to maintain a quiet or respectful atmosphere.nnTo make things worse, there are almost no power outlets available — it's nearly impossible to charge anything. For a public library in 2025, this is a basic expectation that's not met.nnAnd bizarrely enough, I occasionally heard what sounded like a wolf howling. I'm not joking — it happened more than once during my visit. The whole experience was surreal.nnA library should be a place for calm, focus, and learning. Sadly, this one feels more like a noisy daycare or public lounge.
This is my VPL location that serves our family for the many activities and borrowing of books, cds, movie DVDs and general entertainment that is available... the biggest special feature to this Kitsilano site is the care and quality service by the staff.. any question will be answered either directly or with asking another staff member.. the Covid-19 situation is very well taken care here at Kits VPL.. again, the staff are super and “””thumbs-up””” To each and every one of them !!
One of the best storytimes for young kids. I feel lucky to call this my local library, staff are patient and lovely.
