Story

The Rogers Cup presented by National Bank is a prestigious professional tennis tournament organized by Tennis Canada. Since 1881 for the men and 1892 for the women, the best players in the world have showcased their skills on Canadian courts. Only Wimbledon and the US Open have longer histories than this major Canadian stop, which is acknowledged by the tennis world to be one of the best-run tournaments on the Tour. Classified as a Masters 1000 event on the ATP World Tour calendar and a WTA Premier 5 tournament, Rogers Cup presented by National Bank offers over US $6 million in prize money and attracts the biggest stars in tennis year after year.

Montreal and Toronto share the task of hosting the best men’s and women’s players in the world, with both tournaments played at the same time, during the same week. So, from August 3-12, 2018, the women will be in Montreal while the men will play in Toronto.

Tennis Canada at its best. Plenty of well maintained tennis courts. Includes a great little resto and tennis boutique. Plenty of parking outside. Located at the edge of beautiful Jarry park.

Call this review Uniprix Indoors. I am a regular user of the Stade and have observed much lately. The mission statement of the venue to provide affordable tennis for all and for all ages while providing a training centre for the elite tennis prospects is definitely being achieved. When you play beside a nine year old who is smashing every ball from every angle perfectly and is serving from a step up platform perhaps because of her diminutive size and, when you consider the success of Canada's professional tennis players, then the frustration of not getting a hard court from the Stade's new online rsvn. system is much easier to digest knowing that youth, after school and community obligations are a priority. Court availability is thus limited though the front desk staff are most helpful in finding a solution which is often the less popular clay courts where humidity and poor lighting make the playing experience less enjoyable especially post the recent well done refurbishment of the hard court surfaces. Moreover there are several minor things that I believe could augment the Stade. Upstairs the courts could be designated by visible numbers, receptacles in between the clay courts might diminish the number of strewn empty plastic bottles while I have no suggestion for the plastic hulahoop lying aimlessly around. Obviously better lighting upstairs would help as would the occasional English sign beside the only one that I found being Clay Court. Is my request unreasonable or is this a contradiction of the community mission of a venue that is a showcase for me and all of Montreal, QUEBEC & Canada?
