Trout Lake Community Centre at John Hendry Park in East Vancouver
Trout Lake Community Centre, located near Victoria Drive just south of East 12th Avenue (earlier called Grandview Community Centre) was opened in 1963 receiving major renovations and expansion in 1977. All ages and ethnic groups are served here. Facilities on-site include an indoor skating rink, fitness centre, preschool and youth centre. A wide range of programs are offered including the First Nations Pow Wow and an active seniors group. The popular East Vancouver Farmers’ Market is hosted in the community centre’s northern parking lot during the Summer and Fall seasons.
Trout Lake Community Centre is jointly operated by the Grandview Community Association and the Vancouver Park Board. Our mandate is to bring together our community to provide accessible recreational, social, educational, and cultural opportunities that promote and develop individual, family and community well being.
Our responsibilities include shaping programming, hiring instructors, raising funds, and accessing grants, developing rental policy, advocating for our parks and insuring that decisions affecting the community are made at the grass roots level. The revenue generated through programs and rentals stays in our community and is invested in activities for children, special events, facility enhancements, park programs and artist residencies among other things.
