I have never lived in a place where I was more disrespected as a tenant than in my current place "maintained" by Trivest Developments Corporation. In order to get us to sign onto the lease they included certain utilities in the rent, made promises about parking access, and assured us that the space would be ready for move in with a few outstanding issues we had taken note of prior to signing, resolved. The reality since we've moved in has been one nightmare after another. None of the work was completed on time, and in fact they hadn't even started when we moved in. We had to have painters and other tradespeople here doing all of the work while we were trying to unpack and get settled in and ready for work. The utilities that they said were included that we have in writing as included on the lease they have reneged on and haven't paid - leaving us with significantly higher costs than we either signed up or budgeted for in advance. Also, because of the poor state of maintenance of the apartment, these costs for things like heat seem much higher than they should be. We've been out what will amount to thousands of dollars when the year is done. Further, the parking they promised they have since stated is unavailable as the parking place apparently has to be saved for management. They have been harassing us for months stating that if we park there in the parking discussed as for our unit directly behind our building that they will have the cars ticketed and towed at our expense. Through conversations with our neighbours we have found out that what is actually happening is that they've decided to try to rent out the parking place separately to a company for $500/month. Since they've realized they have this opportunity to make more money, they've simply decided to go back on our pre-existing parking agreement. They have come by our place unannounced on more than one occasion and have spoken to us in an aggressive manner. My roommate isn't even comfortable interacting with them anymore because of a particularly negative experience they had where one of the property managers - Jane Volkova - was confrontational and hostile to them on the phone. The other property manager for our space is Shivam Pathak. It is difficult for my roommate to be living in a place where they don't even feel it's safe to contact the property management company if something goes wrong when they are home. Then of course the standard applies that you can see from so many of the other comments - they don't send people to fix problems - even serious ones that relate to health and safety. If these problems exist there are never any personnel or managers available to deal with them. But if there is an opportunity for them to make more money, somehow suddenly all of those same personnel and managers are available. Essentially, they will tell you anything they need to in order to get you to sign onto a lease with them, but will then renege on all of those agreements 1 by 1. They have made it clear that their word doesn't matter, and the well-being on the tenants in their apartments doesn't matter, the only thing that matters to them is money. Do yourselves a favour, live anywhere else.
If I could give no stars, this would be one of the case. Not only do management rarely maintain their properties pavement, garage, laundry room, windows, etc., their superintendents in my case don't do their jobs "It's a weekend, I'll look into it monday". As a result of their negligence, tenants have slipped and injured themselves on leaves - not cleared over a month, windows have not been cleaned in years, and their lack of effort has left most tenants hate their point of contact for the property. After an inspection, the city of Toronto has even advised me "if you really wanted to go after them to reduce rent because of poor maintenance, you could". Lastly, those wanting to rent the new apartments, not worth your time - they really are the worst management people I've ever dealt with. Zero care for their current tenants and they will eventually treat you the same. Better INVEST elsewhere. Some of us only stay because we don't get much choices, but we know what's fair and what's right.
The sense of community in our building is so nice. Our Superintendent keeps the building really clean always smells fresh. Our outside property is beautifully groomed with flowers and a gorgeous backyard area. We've been here for shy of 6 years and we love it. Any issues we have with repairs get dealt with promptly.
