Story

Tri-County Humane Society (TCHS) is an independent, nonprofit animal shelter in St. Cloud, serving close to 3000 pets each year. All pets are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and treated for known ailments prior to adoption. Thanks to community support through donations and volunteerism, there is no time limit for adoptable pets at TCHS. Each pet is given a high standard of care and love until they find their match, no matter how long that may take. Support your local humane society!

Mission

MISSION STATEMENT:
We believe in the human-animal bond and exist to support Central MN by practicing and promoting quality adoption services and education programs.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES
SHELTER - The base of operations of the Tri-County Humane Society is our shelter. It is there that we give temporary care to animals who for various reasons are homeless.
We value:
1. a clean, cheerful, healthy, and inviting atmosphere for both animals and people,
2. our professional and compassionate staff who provide daily care for the animals at the shelter and insure a successful adoption program, and
3. our volunteers who, in assisting the staff in daily animal care, willingly take on both pleasant and unpleasant tasks.
EDUCATION - Through our educational programs, we teach humane and well-informed animal care.
We strive to:
1. inform people of the problem of pet overpopulation and the multiple benefits of spaying and neutering their pets,
2. help pet owners to understand total animal care, including how to meet their pet’s nutritional, behavioral, and social needs,
3. emphasize a sense of responsibility and the realization that pet ownership involves a lifelong commitment, and
4. create an awareness of our mission in the community at large.
COMMUNITY SERVICES - The Tri-County Humane Society recognizes its membership in and obligations to the surrounding community.
We strive to:
1. provide professional and helpful information regarding a variety of animal concerns,
2. respond to alleged cruelty and neglect reports with appropriate referrals,
3. reach out into the community through staff and volunteer involvement programs and activities, and
4. provide humane and appropriate care for impounded animals.

The volunteer that helped my family find our two kittens was very nice! Everything was quick and my toddler loved seeing all the animals here. We ended up getting Hank black kitten & waiting on Ruby still grey kitten not pictured. Literally every animal in here is so adorable.
What a wonderful gift, service, & treat to the local community. So many wonderful people I had to start volunteering just so I could get my "fix" of trying to help and be around all these precious fur babies. The other great thing I can say is I don't notice the same dogs being there week after week which means they are being adopted quickly. Fur-ever homes for the win!
I got 2 cats. Changed their names to Ian and Ivy. The staff were helpful and very knowledgeable about the questions I had as a first time cat owner.
They have a lot of cats, and I wish they could take in more dogs. Friendly staff, cute animals and a great place to take my 3 year old.
We picked up Rosie on Nov 8th roughly. She wasn't as friendly with cats and dogs as we had hoped but she's settling in. Process for adoption was quick, and fair. Also the staff were friendly. I might consider them again in the future if we ever need another animal. Rosie pictured on the left and her sister Poppy on the right.
Well..... yikes. We adopted a cat. He’s the sweetest little guy. He is visibly torn up, and they said he got in fights with other cats as a stray. The only thing though, is they went through about 30 things they did for him when he came into the shelter, and also the day we came to adopt him is when they decided to tell us that apparently he has rotten teeth and we are supposed to be fostering him until a dentist can come and figure out how bad his health is, so we took him home anyway because we loved him and felt bad that no one else would adopt him, but THEN they called us and said they were apparently wrong about his dentistry issues. So first, even if he did have these problems, why didn’t you list it on his adoption papers? And second, how come you got it wrong? A little frustrated, but at least they were nice and we got to bring our little guy home.
Every year we bring our two rescue animals Dog and Cat for Christmas pictures. The service is always amazing and the staff are friendly. 11+ years and every experience has been amazing.
Called ahead, asked about the stray policy and days waiting. Still went to check out kittens. When we arrived we were told that the 2 we wanted to look at were picked up but their siblings were still there. I found that odd that a owner would only pick up part of the litter and questioned it. The staff didnt have an explanation. We still checked out other kittens. Then another lady came in looking for one of the same kittens we were looking for. Long story short, the kittens were there, back recovering from surgery, but by the time they came out and we saw them others had already gotten them. Disheartening that the staff didnt have the right information or know where the kittens were. The facility itself is very nice and you can tell the animals are cared for well.
I drove all the way from Oakdale to Saint Cloud for the new member of my family, Mochi Boo : It was an incredibly easy process and I could tell that the people who work there really sincerely love and care for the animals in their care. Pricing was awesome, all of the paperwork was a breeze and I got a new sibling for my first kitty Miso! Miso and Mochi absolutely love each other and are inseparable now. I'm lucky to have gotten one of the best cats in the world from this place. I 110% recommend them to anyone and everyone. Plus they have called me twice they called me after a few days to see how he was doing and then they called me after 30 days which I really appreciated. They are incredibly caring and kind there. If anyone is looking to adopt a pet from here, please do . Adopt. Don't shop!!! Edit: They also accommodated to me when I said I would be late to my appointment and they neutered him! They also happily gave me his little back story of finding him and he is seriously the most cuddly cat and never leaves my side. Anyways, they were really awesome and I cannot stress that enough lol
Such a clean, well run humane society! It’s clear everyone who works here is passionate about animals! It is the nicest humane society I have ever been to. Plus they have a thrift store for animal supplies. Highly recommend.
