An amazing establishment all the way around. Reserved a table with no stress at all. From the moment we entered, we were treated very kind and professionally. Our waiter Craig was hands down the best and most informative waiter I have ever come across. He listened to us and understood our taste, and was able to masterfully guide us to selecting the perfect wine and food based off the information we gave him. Usually when you go to these kinds of places they portions are expensive yet small. You leave hungry, or decide to get dessert. Not this place! I was stuffed! The portions fill you up, and the chefs are so talented!! Hands down the best steak I have ever eaten in my life. I cannot stress enough how amazing this place is. Definitely worth the 5 hour drive. Thank you to our Waiter Craig for his outstanding service, and to the chefs for preparing such an amazing meal!
First time and great experience at Trattoria Stella. The quality of the service was exceptional and was a perfect compliment to the excellent menu and beverage selections. The setting and decor is worth a stop by itself as the restaurant is located in the basement of one of the buildings of the Village at Grand Traverse complex with access to the many shops as well. Thanks for making this a memorable visit.
A very nice restaurant in Traverse City. The ambiance is great, and I love that it’s in a building that used to be a mental ward. The food was good, but a bit pricey. Two of the clams in my fettuccini were closed, kinda surprising for a restaurant of this level, but otherwise, food was good. Compared to other places in the area, I would recommend this place if you’re looking for fine dining.
What can I say that hasn’t been said? Food and service is stellar, probably my favorite place to dine in the state of Michigan. The setting is unique and interesting but fabulous at the same time. Have never had a poor experience here, and hope Stella always will be a part of my trips to Traverse City.
The food was not as good as I was expecting the beef was too salty we had to send it back. When it came back it was still too salty. The ribs had jalapeno peppers on them so I thought they would be spicy but they were not. They were more like a honey glaze. Asparagus was delicious not overcooked. The flatbread pizza was very good. Our waiter Dave picked out an awesome wine for me he was on point.
Amazing food. I went for restaurant week and had a great meal. I ordered oysters and the cheese board and they were nice but not something I'd order again because it's just not my type of thing to order so I'm not taking a star off because of that.Dine in: YesTakeout: Yes
Amazing Overall Experience! The entire meal was an experience in complex textures, and flavors. It was such a pleasurable meal beginning with the excellent customer service and staff who had spot on recommendations and were incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the food to the atmosphere and ambiance of the location and subtle lighting. This place has so much to offer everyone, small plate options to give a taste of the expertly crafted cuisine to full entrees that leave you completely satiated and satisfied. We sat at the bar and the bartenders blew us away with their knowledge and passion for the food, the drink pairings and selections. There was no hesitation with their thoughts, you can tell they loved what they do and are thoughtful about it all. It was our anniversary and they brought us gelato which was better than I remembered having in Italy. I highly recommend Stella's. It was a top meal experience for us. Features: Masks not required, hand sanitizer at the door for convenience.
This place is so unique and cool due to its location in a former mental institution built in 1885. The restaurant is beautiful and has very unique menu offerings. The food was overall delicious. The Spanish Octopus was the best dish we got. I had the spaghetti and my husband had the hake piccata and we split the mushroom soup. the flavors were great but my dish and the soup were overly salted resulting in the 4 out of 5 rating. If the over salting was held back this would for sure be a 5. We would go back though and try other dishes.
Amazing Amazing. The staff is sweet, the atmosphere is fun Spooky in some ways because it's in a basement but the food is heavenly. The more unique you go the better. Over all I would recommend this place to anyone.Dine in: YesOutdoor seating: NoTakeout: NoDelivery: NoCurbside pickup: No
Trattoria Stella in Traverse City, Michigan is a hidden gem of a restaurant that will take your taste buds on a journey they won't forget. I been waiting to dine here for about a year, but never made the reservations far enough in advance. Located in The Village at Grand Traverse Commons, which was once an asylum, the restaurant is steeped in history and charm. But don't let that fool you - Trattoria Stella is a farm-to-table restaurant that takes its food seriously. I started off with the Aviation gin cocktail and a New York Sour, both of which were expertly crafted. And then came the Chef's Taste from Chef Myles' whole animal offal - blood sausage made from a whole hog. Now, I know that might sound a little taboo to some, but trust me, it was a taste sensation. I always make it a point to order blood sausage if it’s available. The flavors were rich and complex, and it was the perfect start to the meal. Next up was the Burrata with shaved Toscano salami, and charred tomato vinaigrette, served with crostini. The creamy burrata paired perfectly with the salty salami and tangy tomato vinaigrette. And the crostini? Let's just say I could have eaten a whole basket of them. For my main course, I had the maltagliati, with all'arrabbiata, crispy Berkshire pork belly, mini sweet peppers, cannellini beans, Calabrian chile paste, with simple tomato sauce. Every bite was exquisite. The peppers added a nice sweetness, and the chili paste gave it just the right amount of kick without being overly spicy. Overall, I can't recommend Trattoria Stella enough. It's a restaurant that takes its ingredients seriously, but isn't afraid to have a little fun with them. Our waitress Katie was outstanding, as well. And the fact that it's located on the grounds former asylum just adds to its quirky charm. So, whether you're a Traverse City local or just passing through, make sure to stop by Trattoria Stella - your taste buds will thank you.
