The experience at Tosho is nothing like other knife stores. You really get a hands on experience with the equipment before purchasing which I haven't seen anywhere else. Their selection is great and I would say their prices are more reasonable than other Japanese knife stores in Canada. Something that is also unique about them is that they have more budget and beginner friendly Japanese knives for people just starting to dip their toes into the game. The staff are super helpful and will accommodate your needs whether you are a knife newbie or a pro. Their new location is very nice too. Drop by and treat yourself to a new knife.
Just bought my first carbon steel japanese knife, and I have to say, the customer service here is outstanding! I hope the guy who helped me, sees this review, because you made my week helping me out and also not trying to sell me the most expensive knife. I will be coming here from now on.
Tosho is the best knife store in the city. There selection is full of only the best knives. If you love to talk about knives their staff is knowledgeable and full of various opinions. They are always willing to talk and teach. Any questions about knife care or modifications they are the people to talk to. Also with their expansion to premium tableware it's always fun to go to the shop
I was in the city for a sporting event a few weeks back and had time to kill - and this store has always been on my "to check out" list whenever I am in Toronto. I am SO glad I did! I was only expecting to drop in to look at some top of the line knives, and maybe hold some in my hand, but the staff at Tosho Knife Arts went above and beyond!! Even knowing that I was not able to make a purchase that day I wouldn't be able to bring my purchased knife into the ACC! LOL They let me test out some of the knives, answered the questions that I had and some that I didn't know I had! and made some amazing recommendations. I was just a drop-in, but they gave me 100% of their attention and spent a good amount of time with me. I felt no pressure to make a purchase that day and it was so refreshing. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there! I ended up snapping a bunch of pictures of knives that I enjoyed using to remember for later. The staff were SO passionate and knowledgeable about their tools. I learned SO much from my short time there while looking and trying out all the pretty and high quality knives! I will definitely be making my next purchase and probably all future purchases at Tosho Knife Arts. Extremely HUGE thank you to Tyler and Emelia for your attentiveness, passion and knowledge. I will most definitely be dropping by again!
I had heard about Tosho and happened to stumbled upon the shop while walking with a friend. I’m a pretty decent cook and have long known about the need for high quality knifes, if for no other reason than safety, but boy was I in for a life-changing experience! Tyler was super friendly, professional & so knowledgeable about knifes. He took the time to listen to my needs, abilities and level of comfort with kitchen knifes, plus asked questions that led to enlightening discussions. Tyler was extremely patient & willing to spend the time to educate & recommend suitable products. I was thrilled to be able to sample several knives on chopping blocks using carrots provided & discovered the joy of handling beautifully crafted knifes that cut as smoothly as a “knife through butter”! I decided to treat myself to a stellar santoku that was excellent quality for the value. Needless to say I was giddy to cook dinner that night and made corned beef hash with Greek village salad… just so I could chop to my heart’s content my Tosho knife did not let me down!
Going to Tosho Knife Arts was honestly such an amazing experience. When I walked in I was greeted by the very friendly staff, and received help from Brian. After Brian asked some questions and got an understanding of the type of knife I was looking for, he laid out some options for me to try out on some carrots and helped me narrow down the choices until I found exactly what I was looking for. They are very knowledgeable, and I was able to get answers to all the questions I could possibly think of regarding knives, and Japanese knives specifically. Before I left, they made sure I knew everything I needed to about taking care of the knife, storing it, sharpening it, and they even told me I would be able to come it and get it sharpened for free the first time. If you are looking for a Japanese knife, or just a high quality knife in general, I suggest you go to Tosho Knife Arts and get something that’ll make you happy for a long time. Thanks again for the great service!
We had a wonderful experience shopping here and selecting our Japanese knives. Both Tony and Tyler, and Joshua were professional, warm, patient, and detailed in their explanations. We had a lot of fun selecting different knives and equipment and trying it out. Nice clean space with lots of interesting tools. Usually the buying experience is half the fun of actually buying something awesome. Will return for sure and recommend to all our colleagues and friends. Thanks Team Tosho.
By far the finest knife shop around. Every time we come by Tyler and the team are always knowledgeable and share there passion for Japanese knives with anyone that comes in. I have personally built quite a collection from Tosho and look forward to growing that as well.
I had to order online because I wasn't in Toronto. Tyler replied to all my questions, he took photos and measurements. I like this kind of store where you can't go wrong with any product - high quality, the best selection. When such a great choice of product is made, shopping is far easier. I received knives in France by international shipping it took 2 days once sent. 1 day before the expected date. Everything was well packed and secured. Boxes were even wrapped in gift paper. It added something more to this really nice gift. These knives are very efficient and add a lot of pleasure when I cook.
Tyler greeted me as soon as I arrived in the shop with a warm and welcoming manner. I have always had excellent service here, no matter the reason for my arrival. I have been coming here for around 10 years now. They sell knives that will not only make cooking easier but also elevate the finished product. These Japanese knives are the best I have ever used, and the people who work here are knowledgeable and so very helpful when it comes to making a final decision on your new purchase. I have added to my collection over the years and come back to get them sharpened as well. I cannot say enough good things about the astonishing level of craftsmanship they sell or the service they provide. You will be so glad you came.
