Tom's BaoBao

About

The art of traditional bao-making is on display. The second and largest international location of the innovative Chinese restaurant concept in Providence.

Story

Tom’s BaoBao in the heart of Providence is the second US location of the famed Chinese fast-casual bao concept, GanQiShi (founded in 2009), where Tong and his team currently serve nearly 250,000 bao a day at their more than 200 eateries throughout China. Tom’s BaoBao prides itself in preparing each and every bao by hand, in front of customers and serving them fresh out of the bamboo steamers. If it isn’t fresh, it isn’t bao!

Employees are definitely nice and the place is great. The beef bao I had was good but the pork one... not good at all. Also, prices are expensive considering that I wasn’t full after spending about $13. Baos are more like snacks, I wouldn’t considering going over there to have a “real” menu. They have pastas and also rice plates but it seemed to be so small. The concept is good and I’d like to support you more but those issues I’ve pointed out are stopping me. I will try to come back later this year to, I hope, upgrade this review.
I like the option to just buy one. Instant service since they’re already made and left steaming. We had pork and curry beef to try. Both good. Very thick and doughy. I expected more options for sauce though. They have multiple recycling bins which is nice
What can I say? The service was super quick and the food was excellent. Prices were not bad either. The interior was very clean. The seating area was well maintained and decorated in an interesting way. Menu selection is not very broad but this is a destination for bao bao and should not be confused with restaurants work a wide selection of menu items.
Gave this a try after my wife kept talking about going here for a while now. Place is small, you can see where they prep and cook all the food wich is preatty cool. We tried the chicken, the beef, the pork and lobster bao. I have to say i liked them all but my favorite one was definitely the chicken one. Can't wait to go back and try other items on their menu.
Tried this place. It's different because it's not authentic. It's a modern place. The buns could be kept a little warmer but I waited for 15 minutes and got a fresh prom bun. That was tasty. Everything else is pretty cute.
A lovely little spot near Hotel Providence that brings a pleasant twist on an asian staple, the ever popular meat bun. I've had more than my fair share of the food both home and abroad, and Tom's did not disappoint. The buns are filling and don't leave you feeling like you spent too much for one of their nice combos. Their menu combines tradition and american fusion, such as the lobster, or the s'more the latter was tried and is delicious, a treat since I'm not a big fan of red bean paste. Their techniques are all traditional, and i cam say that because you have full view of their staff cranking out meat buns while you eat. A strong recommendation for a quick lunch or weekend fare on a visit to the city.
Delicious product at a fair price, comfortable to visit alone, as a couple or small group, good combo deals allowing you to try their variety of offerings although like previous reviews I also tried to order a vegetarian dumplint and did not get one on my plate. Unique offering, convenient location, good for lunch or dinner.
Awesome bao. You can watch them being made in the window and the flavors are amazing must try. I went back a few times in two days
I love this place so much! Their food is really filling but super tasty. If your order takes too long to be fulfilled they'll often throw in some extra for free. The employees are friendly, the aesthetic is pretty chill and you're missing out if you don't go here!
Clean. Decent interior design. Friendly staff. I got the pork and vegetarian. The pork was more flavorful.
