Absolutely delightful spot, and the food was phenomenal. Best nachos I can remember having in a long time.
Quick and friendly service. Beautiful view from the patio. Food was good 3.5/5
Were all these reviews written by their friends? Wondering where the world famous friendly Newfoundland people are. . . ?! When we walked into the cafe there was no greeting or smile, in fact they ignored us at the 'wait to be seated' sign for several minutes and then finally, almost begrudgingly came and asked how many, still no smile or hello. The service was fairly quick, but the surly attitude of our server was off putting. The grilled cheese sandwich must have missed the turn at the pannini press, as it was sort of browned, but the cheese was not melted, and barely warm inside. We didn't complain due the attitude of the server. I was surprised by the small size of the chicken burger in the brioche bun, and not sure if the shredded chicken was out of a can. The view was nice, and a quick walk down the hill to the dam was interesting, but definitely wouldn't recommend this place. Not sure why it seems to be so popular.
UPDATE: JULY 1, 2022 Today we returned to give this cafe a 2nd go, & there was some improvement from our last visit. Original post a month prior Very Disappointed with the service this morning at the new location. We went to have a nice light breakfast & a hot beverage. The sign says "please wait to be seated" which we did for 5 minutes before we sat ourselves to a table. There was no Beverage menu offered so when the server asked what we wanted to drink we didn't know what to order. The server said "well what do you want & I'll see if we got it". The same was said when we asked if there was any fresh baked good other than the one lonely cupcake & date square. There were no breakfast baked goods like fresh bagels, protein balls or muffins. Since we didn't have a beverage menu & the sever couldn't tell us what was available we just had coffee & hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was warm milk & a no name ice cream syrup mix which all settled at the bottom of the mug. Vegetarian options: "Rabbit food" selection is offered in the menu Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly menu options Parking: Parking is sufficient Wheelchair accessibility: Yes this has plenty of accessibility for wheelchair access & dining space.
Off the beaten path which we loved, and though challenging to find, well worth it. Tip: Follow signs for the Salmonid sp? Interpretation Center all the way including a one-way wooden bridge and you’ll make it Hands down a primo gem not to be missed with charming decor, friendly staff, a deck overlooking a spectacular waterfall, with the most delicious, creative food. My husband and I stopped in en route to Newfoundland. I had a yummy breakfast sandwich and my husband had a veggie omelet he loved. On our way home we had no choice but to return bc we loved it so much where I had a grilled cheese panini with apple slices and crispy bacon which was over the top. My husband ordered a red pepper soup which was like no other really and also had a vegan rice bowl beautifully presented and delicious. Not to be missed! Dietary restrictions: They had gluten free and vegan options
Awesome hidden nice cafe to have lunch. The building looks bit dreadful but the moment you open the cafe door, it looks amazing. All furnitures are unique. We immediately love this place. They also have nice coffee, lunch, reading corner & stage for performing. It is a must visit place.
Absolutely best service and food! Very friendly and welcoming staff, quick service, absaloutly wonderful food. Beautiful view too
Our first visit after driving by so many times and wondering, "Why and how is that apartment complex serving coffee?" Looks are decieving- the instant you walk down those stairs and open the door to the Third Place you are instantly warmed. The coffee is so tasty- I loved the way the menu and desserts were set up and easy to read. The hardest part was deciding! Truly such a gem in GFW you need to check out and cozy up in!
You would never know what this place was from the outside. It's the basement of an apartment building. You're not in the wrong place! The menu is written on a chalkboard and you can order before you sit down. You can tell they love what they make, vegan options as well as gourmet grilled cheese and BLTs. I got the vegan curry rice bowl. It was delicious. Definitely not what I was expecting when walking into the place. Super eclectic vibe. Decorated with antiques and you can buy local honey and stained glass pieces along with some used books. I would definitely go back and try everything on their menu.
Came here for a break in the long drive from Gros Morne to St John’s and didn’t want to leave! Lovely cafe with loads of lunch options and delicious desserts. Decor is eclectic and thoughtful and the wifi is super fast! Looks like an apartment building from the outside but step inside and the basement is a lovely cafe!
