The chicken Cesar salad was to die for! My hubby had the Elk Burger and said it was the best Elk burger that he’s had since his late uncle made them for him! We most definitely recommend this cafe if you’re going through Troutlake!
Since we entered the place the attention was deplorable, the woman who took our order seemed angry, we hadn't finished ordering and she was already leaving, I had to tell her, "I haven't finished ordering" when they brought us the food, in one of my orders were missing the toast and the fish was raw, even more completely cold inside, I called her and showed him so she took the food away and in less than 5 minutes she returned, incredible they fried the same fish that they had brought me at the beginning , but it was still raw and somewhat cold, it was just more dark on the outside. When paying the tip surprisingly, IT IS NOT AN OPTION, it is calculated by them, despite the terrible attention they say the amount of tip that we should give. I decided to return the food that they had done wrong, I showed them and they verified that it was still cold and the answer was: "Do you want me to fry it more?" my response, "I don't want this food" we sent this food back, but despite the lousy service, I was FORCED to tip for the worst service in the world
What a precious slice of true Americana. Don't recommend for those who like to order food from "an app," or enjoy telling people what they find offensive. Inside, you can chat it up with long time locals who logged, and fished, and worked hard for a living. Reminisce with country style cooking that'll give your MeeMa's a run for her money. Hold the door for someone on the way in, and you might just have a great conversation and make a new friend. Feels like the heart of Klickitat County. We'll see you there friend...
This meal was taken in the charming hovel that accompanied the local gas station. With charming views of the cattle and vintage gasoline pumps through the lime-glass window, the interior is a whimsically decorated wooden structure reminding the customer of local diners on route 66 in Cars. The food was delectable, harkening me back to prior experiences as a child dining in a cottage I spent time in during a few of the summer months. The service was impeccable, staffed by a single welcoming and non altruistic woman. This was an experience everyone should have. I was not the one who decided to dine at this fine establishment. This establishment invited me in with open arms and gave me the privilege to say I have had breakfast at The Station Cafe.
What did I do in a former life to deserve the treatment I got from the woman that runs this place? Came in for breakfast out of the cold and was told to sit outside as the inside was for old people only. I pointed out I was in my 50s with a smile, she said locals only. My only crime it turns out maybe was that I have hiked nearly 2230 miles from Mexico and she doesn’t want the business & the cash we Pacific Crest Trail hikers bring in. Turns out Mrs Nasty is well known around town for her not so great customer service. Do yourself and the town a favour and eat anywhere else but here.
Took some friends from Germany here... random extra fees added to our tab...guess they assumed we were all foreign. Um 3 burgers and 2 shakes suddenly $ 89 .. .um what? I was told the owners add 3% for using a card, we should have told you?? Bahaha um that didn't even add up- I can do math kids. Moving forward had to ask for the itemized which didnt show these "extra charges" shady AF. Don't be greedy folks, bad for business.
Food was average, bathrooms were dirty, but the prices were outrageously high $16-20 for burgers. Avoid. Much better deals in Hood River.
Yikes on bikes! My friend and I stopped in tonight for an early dinner on the way home from the mountain. The food was delicious but the service was something else entirely. Never in my entire life have I witnessed such poor customer service. As we ate our dinner inside the cafe the young girls behind the counter did absolutely nothing but loudly complain about their customers, lock the front door 10 minutes before closing as paying customers tried to walk in, and then when those customers went to walk around to the other door one of the girls ran over there and practically slammed the door in their faces. Rude, uncouth, unprofessional and flat out disrespectful. For a small business trying to survive post-Covid and with this high inflation fiasco you would think the owner would want nice, competent employees who treat patrons well but I see they've struck out. Steer clear, I imagine there are better places down the road where you'll get treated far better.
What a disappointment. We were so looking forward to coming here after hearing many good things about it so maybe this was an off day. However the service was horrible. We waited 20 mins just to get a menu, another 15 to order and then another 20 mins before even getting water. I went to politely ask for water from the girl at the front desk and while not even looking up from her phone she barked that “they were slammed and would bring it to the table.” From my perspective, they weren’t slammed but unorganized and run by teenagers. Don’t come here if you’re hungry because you’ll be waiting at least 90 mins to get water. Truly disappointing.
Stop there for lunch coming out of our hike. The outdoor seating area was great and the young server was wonderful. Food came out quick, drinks were good, everyone was happy !!!
