I mean for this to be constructive criticism and not negative, this was our experience: Overall, it was super cool to experience the vintage vibe of the restaurant, it’s truly a piece of Winnipeg history and a cool vibe. The red chairs are rad, complimented by the warm lighting and rosewood walls. Our service was decent, considering how busy it was… every table was full so, that definitely says something positive! The aspects that weren’t as stellar: 1. The fries had an odd, bland taste… not sure if it’s the oil they use, or the fries supplier. It might help just getting up to date on industry standard fries and good with regular potatoes, perhaps something less processed. 2. We ordered T-bone steak which had an okay flavour but the meat was super gristly. They manager mended the issue which was great! 3. The table soup was quite bland, tasted like a canned soup, needs to be rethought altogether perhaps. 4. Caesar salad was okay! Very basic though, tastes like it’s from a kit. Overall I’m questioning if whether I would go back.. I loved having a cup of tomato juice but, I’m not sure it’s enough to revisit. My wife enjoyed the NY strip, so we definitely suggest it. Let’s hope they make some improvements! Thanks for the wonderful dinner
A throwback to the 1950s. Martinis and Old Fashions cocktails to start. Decor of dark panelling and super comfy red vinyl chairs. Best steak I have had in a long time. You have to try the garlic mashed potatoes. Really friendly efficient service at the same time we were not rushed. Very enjoyable evening.
First steak looks fantastic but was way over cooked. Asked for med rare, recieved well done. Second steak was 40% fat. Had cheese cake for dessert and it tasted like someone dumped the whole salt shaker on it. Server was great, but nothing taken off the bill for bad food preparation.
Had high expectations for this place. Very cool old and retro steak house in Winnipeg. My experience was three stars and here is why. 1. I’m a business man and travel extensively for work and always ask my client to recommend a good steak house 2. Arrived early and was seated and the staff was very nice 3. Ordered an old fashioned to start, and it was terrible, all bitters and no sugar cube, could not drink it - they need to train the bartender 4. Ordered a bottle of wine, good selection and good prices 5. Beef barley soup had almost no beef or barley in it - disappointed 6. Ordered a filet mignon and baby carrots - steak was ok, but did not arrive hot, it was cooked ok but had sat out - the carrots were disgusting and cold - actually cold 7. Créme Brûlée was ok $250 for 2 people - would have had a much better meal at Earls Long and short, it’s sad to see management destroy a great location - if the owners see this, stop catering to the boomers and focus on what others want and you could make this an incredible location and experience.
A very classy place. All food cooked perfectly. Service was 10/10. Expect to spend between $40-100 per person.
5 Stars Isn't Enough!! The service we had from Ian was the best we've ever had! The food was absolutely amazing!!! The flavors were amazing, the quality was fantastic, the quantity was perfect!!! Best restaurant we've ever been to!!! Food: 5/5
wanted to love it, but for $72 with an overly generous tip for servers that didn’t deserve it, it truly was a let down. For this price point, I expected quality. The servers constantly reached over us, bumping our chairs and spoke rudely when questions were asked when they brought the wrong meal. The bread was cold, served with cold block of butter which couldn’t spread. Half the the tables steaks looked like a fatty bland mess, and the other half looked appetizing. But I’m speaking of mine, which was just ok. It would have been 4 stars if was cooked as ordered and warm when served. my filet mignon was ordered as medium well, And first cut in was solid pink and blood running into my potatoes. I still ate it as I didn’t want to make a fuss. Potatoes were cold but tasty, beans were seasoned and good but cold. Mushrooms didn’t taste fresh and had no seasoning!? Wish I had a better review but I have to be honest.
Decided to come out for a nice steak dinner. No reservations were made and they pleasantly took us in as walk up patrons. Waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the extensive history of the establishment. Food was exquisite and on point with their steaks and sides. The soup was rich and full of flavour. The bathrooms were clean which made me feel good about eating there. Everyone inside appeared to be having a great time and it just added to the atmosphere. There was plentiful of parking which made it stress free and just a better overall experience. No other steak place compares or offers this level of customer experience. I intend on going back again. Parking: Lots of spacious parking and availability. Wheelchair accessibility: One level building with lots of easy access.
This restaurant is one of our favourite restaurant in Winnipeg even pandemic situation, I couldn’t give up my taste in here. Me Asian and my friend India went for dinning. Steaks and wine-Food was excellent as usual but our server was terrible. He almost dropped the steak knife on the table on his way of walking and asked how’s first bite of steak then we answered ‘great’ but he already walked away fast not listening our answer. Humiliated! We felt this server obviously discriminated visible minority. Only he smiled when dining is over because he expected getting tip. I was staying around door few seconds but the front lady was very shy and quiet as well. Not even say a word. Where is courtesy? Why we choose this restaurant and pay $70 meal even ruin my dinning out. Overall, too generous graded one star. Vegetarian options: Coleslaw
The burger looked awesome, large portion and everyone who had it, enjoyed it. The green beans as “fresh vegetables” were OK. They were a bit cold. The home made Barely soup was fairly salty and thick, kind of like a few veggies with gravy. The steak was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were alright. Presentation was lacking but food tasted alright. The house salad looked sad. The decor is original and a nice blast from the past. Service was friendly. Fairly price, kind of what was expected.
