We did the tasting menu and it was absolutely exquisite. Every course was a surprise since we didn’t ask for any details and we are so happy with the chefs selection that day. Staff was super friendly and the decor is cute. Thanks for having us. We will definitely be back!
Absolutely spectacular local gem. Amazing warm ambiance and the meal was divine. We opted for the tasting menu which was five courses of perfectly seasoned, locally sourced truly inspired food. From the service to the spoons it was a true delight.
Food was pretty good, the mushroom risotto was great. Cocktails were okay, nice atmosphere. The client services could use a little work. The food isn't worth budding heads with restaurant staff all night. I could tell right away when we placed our order to split an app and a mainthe tomato salad and the mushroom risotto that the quality of service diminished rapidly. When we were finishing up, she brought the bill and grabbed my drink tequila sour off the table, even though there was still half of it left. I politely told her maybe she made a mistake when she grabbed it off the table, not a big deal but if I could get the rest of it or another one that would be great. She was reluctant to admit she had grabbed my drink but after a short conversation she agreed and moments later the bartender brought me a new one. That's when I realized he had only made me a half drink, which I thought for this caliber of restaurant was a little petty. We didn't see our server for the rest of the time and we left. Probably won't return
The Marans is a very nice place in Picton. They have fresh ingredients. The beef carpaccio was excellent and hearty. The salmon was cooked well but I wasn’t a fan of the orange flavouring. The room in the front is nice and bright. The room in the back is quite dark but romantic.
Amazing food & service! Had the tasting menu and it was well worth the price. I love that a lot of their ingredients are locally-sourced. The chef is clearly a master at different cooking techniques, presentation, and flavours. Our server was friendly and explained the dishes really well. Will be back again for sure!
Great experience at the Marans. Great food with thought out flavour experiences. My only warning which I can’t really blame the restaurant for is that there was a lot of cilantro in most of what we ordered. Unfortunately I have that gene that makes cilantro taste like a bar of soap; so unfortunately I was picking it out of everything and the flavour did kind of deep into my pickerel. When I said something they were more than accommodating and apologetic. All and all it was a wonderful experience and I would strongly recommend them! Also their Caesar is killer and the red sangria is so fantastic!
sometimes you get lucky. Just driving in the country, enjoying the scenery and got dinner hungry. Found The Marans on a whim and wow! a gem. Being a solo dinner got me the only table available, not a great ambiance at my seat, but beggars you know. The daily special of vegetable risotto burst with fresh spring veggies perfectly offset with a Portuguese vinho verde. Plan your trip well in advance during the tourist season. not all are so lucky.
I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. All four is us loved our meal and the dessert. The service was also excellent
Had dinner here on Sept 30, 2021. Had high expectations based on the reviews. Service was prompt, professional, and polished. We informed our waiter of a timeline we were on and they adjusted service appropriately. We both ordered cocktails - wonderfully prepared. Appetizers - Chicken liver pate - delicious! Amazing flavor compositions, excellent use of the pound cake as a delivery vehicle needed a tad more bread after. Very much enjoyed. Appetizer #2 - Pork & cabbage dumplings, also delicious. The dumplings themselves AND the salad beneath, well dressed, creamy, complimentary to the dumplings. One criticism - the soy gastrique was a tad salty. Main - Mushrooms en croute - lovely composition of pastry, mushrooms, cream, textures, delicious. Main #2 - I requested the lamb shank, but it wasn't available. Instead, Chef Guerin prepared me a pork dish which I was informed - is being tested for the menu. One bite and I had to pause... The combo of the pork, potato and the gravy/bordelaise - was something else. Just perfect. Well seasoned, served at the right temperature, the pork was cooked to perfection. Overall - we really enjoyed ourselves. I believe the team here is doing great work. I would highly recommend.
My partner and I had a delicious and thoughtful meal. We are vegan and the chef truly showcased the ingredients. The front of house team was warm, genuine and attentive. We were able to talk to the chef at the end of the night when all was quiet. Thank you for a great meal.
