Story

It was here that Barrie Strohmans hobby of growing and hybridizing lilies began
over 30 years ago. In 1995 Barrie’s son, Nigel Strohman began the commercial
operation of The LILY NOOK and released their first catalogue.
Yearly a catalogue is designed and printed, with 136 color pictures. Bulbs are shipped throughout the world both
spring and fall.

End of July is the right time to see many lily varietals in bloom. Appreciate being able to purchase potted plants at this time. Very pleasant staff.
I have only ordered from The Lily Nook once, but I will be ordering again next year! The website and ordering was simple and prices for lily bulbs was fair. Most importantly the bulbs arrived in good form and of THE VERY BEST QUALITY! Look at the size of these bulbs! As big as my fist!
I love going to this place. All lilies are beautiful and you will amazed how they grow all this flowers. This are the lilies i bought at Lily Nook 2005
There were so many varieties to choose from and we were so lucky to get the chance to drive out to the lily growing fields and see so many varieties in full bloom!
The bulbs came packaged great, and were big and super healthy. 100 per cent came up and were beautiful. These people really know what they are doing. I just ordered a bunch more and can't wait to get them.

As the only lily specialist nursery in the country, I would have expected the Lily Nook to carry at least one Canadian native lily but no, they don’t even carry the Canada Lily Lilium canadense. Nor did they show the slightest interest in selling it in the future when I enquired. You can always tell which nurseries have a genuine commitment to plants and which are in it only for the money. Ironically there are thousands of native gardeners who would flock to buy it if they did carry it. Many Canadians are forced instead to grow this and Michigan Lily from seed which takes many years to see results. Very disappointing. Update: When I noted my disappointment in this review, the owner replied with an extraordinarily condescending response claiming that they don’t grow native lilies because they aren’t hardy in their growing zone and suggested I grow them from seed which, as I noted above, takes several years to see results. First, I didn’t necessarily expect them to propagate the lilies themselves, though Canada lilies are in fact rats hardy to zone 3 and the Lily Nook is located in Neepawa, Manitoba zone 3 b. Second, the Lily Nook doesn’t carry any hardy bulbs as far as I can tell so I’m not sure the relevance of this excuse. They could source and make native lily bulbs available the way they do all the other bulbs they sell if they were truly committed to a love of lilies instead of simply making a profit.
Beautiful grounds and a quaint family run business. A nice stop during blooming time from mid July to August long weekend is best. Can stop in and buy potted plants all summer long.
Drove an hour and a half to come here and shop but closed when we got there. Not impressed. You should at least update your website. We were well within the posted open business hours. We were there at 3 and your website indicates open until 5.
