The Keg Steakhouse Bar

First I must say that I LOVE the Keg ... its a chain but I have never had to complain about the food ... until now. I went on my birthday (alone) and was excited for an excellent meal. I ordered a bottle of wine (took a taxi), appetizer - my favourite mushroom neptune ... I don't know how its possible but it was dry ... still edible but not the usual awesomeness. Bread was excellent. Wine was very yummy. Then came the steak ... I love the steaks at the Keg ... they are perfect ... normally. This one was not. I ordered medium rare it came medium well and had absolutely no juice to it! How disappointing... I didn't bother complaining... it wasn't worth it. The wait staff were inattentive ... maybe because I was by myself? No idea but it wasn't typical of a Keg. I asked for dessert (told the waiter it was my birthday all excited) ... his response "I know" ... seriously? Then he brought me this huge brownie dessert ... maybe it was the normal portion but I found it to be way too much and not really great (dry) .... all in all this was a dry dinner ... I had a glass and a half of wine - waiter corked it up and I left. What a disappointment. And not a cheap meal! Sad.

This new Keg did not leave an outstanding impression, but it had all the chances to do so. The place is spacious and the atmosphere is really nice. Service is great too. But I had to drop two stars: one for high prices and the other for food - it's just ok. A beer, an appetizer and a main after tips and taxes was close to $100. Don't think I will return.

I guess it was just a bad night when I went. We accepted to wait 1h:15 at the bar to get a table. Bloody Ceasars (filled with oversized celery) & margaritas (with a too thick salt rim) were not impressive. We ordered fried calamari & got a plate of all small dry pieces with 2 sauces; feta & asian that were not complimenting each other or the calamari. Once we got a table we waited another 40 minutes to get our steaks. We got a bread that seemed to have just been unfrozen and put in the oven because the inside was moist but the crust was hard as a rock. At some point I went to the front hostess to ask for service since we were left to ourselves & needed water. It was a ruined birthday dinner for me. I will not go back.

Great food! Awesome vibe! Bit expensive, but it's worth the $$

When they want to be on their game, the steak is fresh and wine selection decent. 1 out of every 3 visits I get a dry steak, however. The other two thirds make it worth returning to as I find the steak comparable to 40 West. Blue cheese filet mignon, garlic mash with greens. That'll work.
