11/10 !!! If there were more stars to give we would! My boyfriend said “this is the best breakfast I’ve ever had” and he’s still talking about it! I absolutely was blown away by the abundance of vegan options - the French toast absolutely amazing!!! The açai bowl sooo fresh and so delicious! A vegan cinnamon roll so sweet and a brownie that for sure tasted like it couldn’t have been vegan! Overall the food was incredible - hats off to the chefs! It was very busy the morning we went and I can see why. Loved that the chef brought out our plates such a nice touch. The waitress was super friendly and on top of it amidst the busy-ness. Highly recommend - a must stop in Kenora! Will be back!
The Hungry Pug is one of my favorite breakfast restaurants, and well worth a visit! Street parking only and plug the meter even on Saturdays, because the City of Kenora is greedy. It's not really accessible as there is a step and a tight turn with two doors to get in. That being said, I have seen a person in a wheelchair getting wrangled in by a burly helper. There used to be a indoor ramp from the hotel next door but it's now a separate entity and not an option anymore. There are restrooms in back as well. Update: March 10, 2023 I checked the washrooms, and they were -as expected- spotless, spacious if you can consider a washroom spacious and very clean. I went back out and complimented the owner on the cleanliness. There is plenty of seating both 2 seaters and 4 to 6 seater tables. Service is prompt and the meals are very tasty. I like the chicken and waffles myself but it's all great. I have to compliment the Pug on the bakery goods they offer, fresh scones, cinnamon buns and peanut butter cookies to name a few, all fresh baked. The owner is a trained bakery chef. I wanted more scones to takeout afterwards, and he made a fresh batch and baked them up while I was having breakfast! That is great Kenora service. Update March 6, had a "naked" cinnamon bun, which is my term for an non-iced bun. Delicious The Pug is closed two days a week Tuesday , Wednesday at present and open in the mornings, so check first. I usually look the day before at the hours posted on a sign in the window. Update, see photo attached. It's located between the old Kenricia Hotel and Dinos Greek restaurant on Second Street. Did I mention it's really worth visiting?
The Hungry Pub Cafe catered an event that I attended this week, and I was absolutely blown away by the quality and effort that was put into each delicious option. The fruit trays were full of the freshest, juciest, and most beautiful arrangement of choices, and the cinnamon buns and muffins were to die for. Our lunch options were as though we had ordered sandwiches, salads and hot foods directly from a European 5 star food tour. Carl...you won this girl over with your mad chef skills! Can't wait to travel back to Kenora for more!
Fantastic pastries. Previously being from Kenora, every time we come through we make sure we swing in to at least pick up some of their pastries. You would never know that they're deserts/pastries are vegan.
Love the cinnamon bun and muffin we ordered today. Fresh and delicious!Food: 5/5
I wish I would’ve taken a photo as the presentation was on point, but I just HAD to dig in immediately. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. I had the classic Benny, husband had chicken and waffles. Both were the definition of perfect. *chef’s kiss*
We stopped in for lunch while on a road trip, and had a wonderful time! The staff team was friendly, kind, and helpful. And the food was delicious! We enjoyed the mushroom burger & mango salad and would highly recommend both.
Delicious food and friendly staff- it was an absolutely delightful experience.Food: 5/5
I just love the made-fresh, healthy menu and specials created by the chef/proprietor. I also make a habit of bringing home whatever the soup of the day is. Several different variations of Borscht? Um, yes please!!
First time and loved it. Food high end for great value. Everyone smiling regardless of experience. Great job. Only issue I have is the prices should be higher. Cheers
