We originally were trying to go for brunch at Chesterfield’s, but there was a 2 hour wait, so we decided to check out some other local spots. Are we ever glad we did! My friend and I ordered the breakfast burrito, and the breakfast club so we could try half of each one, while my other friends ordered the breakfast poutine and the eggs Benedict. Everything was amazing and fresh, and the service was fantastic! This is my new go to breakfast spot, and I can’t wait to come back to try the rest of their menu!
We stopped here on a spur of the moment all day breakfast dinner--my favorite thing on the diverse menu. We were the only ones on the patio, and the personable service was notably excellent. This is an extremely cute little spot, and our food was delicious and generous. I couldn't finish mine! The takeaway containers were sustainable, bonus! I would recommend this friendly new spot if you're in the neighborhood.
Fantastic food. This butter chicken poutine was incredible. Crispy fries, super tasty butter chicken and melted curds are an amazing combination. This place is definitely doing it right. 5 stars for the food. However this review is about the experience. Getting the food was a pretty bad experience. I ordered and paid online for pick up. I had chosen a time 50 minutes out. This way when I start my lunch break my food would be ready and I wouldn't waste time. Well I show up at the exact time it was supposed to be ready and it was not. The guy working, who I assume to be an owner or manager, told me it would be 10 minutes. Frustrating situation because this is exactly what I tried to avoid. But what could I do, I had already paid. I took a seat and waited. This is where the experience got worse. The two people working we're yelling at eachother the entire time I was waiting. The one employee told the owner that he needed another worker on weekends. The owner didn't seem happy with this. I definitely agree. The patio was busy and Skip and Uber drivers were filling the resturant. Slightly overwhelmed perhaps but the constant back and forth yelling between the staff is just unprofessional. When they came out of the kitchen they were friendly and courteous though. Just in the back of house their true character came out in an overly aggressive yelling match. The owner wasn't speaking English so I have no idea what he was saying however the other employee would respond in English. He seemed overwhelmed and overworked and tired of the owner wanting to save on hiring another worker. Now I see the owner is very responsive to reviews. You have incredible food from what I tasted. I would definitely be back to try more items. I just really hope it's more of a welcoming and professional environment and not a screaming fest between the staff. I was going to leave 3 stars because it was a very poor experience aside from the food. But I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and hope this was a one off. The food was too good to leave anything lower than a 4 so that's what it gets. Some attitude and behavior changes and this is an easy 5 star establishment.
The menu looked interesting so we gave this place a try. Cozy patio, good selection of beers, and attentive personal service. We ordered the butter chicken poutine and the butter chicken tacos. Both were great. An interesting spin on two normally typical dishes that you would be hard pressed to find done as well anywhere else in the area. A must try if you are in the area
Stopped in last weekend for a bit of a late supper and were satisfied. Seated quickly and our server was very nice. Ordered the buffalo cauliflower wrap and my partner ordered the smoked meat sandwich. Both were very good. We each had a Caesar salad for a side but they were incredibly small - probably 4 bites total but were tasty nonetheless. My only other note is that the outside of the building looks a little unkept - some light landscaping/mowing would really benefit the appearance! But I realize at the end of the day that doesn’t make or break a dining experience. I would not hesitate to go back.
Really nice spot! The butter chicken, rice, and salad were excellent. Also had a couple pints of the house Hollander lager; light and yet still hoppy. A few other things on the menu caught my eye but, naturally, I really needed to try that butter chicken. This just means I'll have to return soon to sample something else, like the beef keema or even a breakfast burrito. Check it out if you're in the area!
Great food. Something on the menu for everyone.craft beer. Awesome service. Lovely patio. A block from public transit. Took a group from the office for a team lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Will definitely return. I highly recommend.
Ordered the Meat lovers breakfast with rye bread off a app. Definitely premium priced as far as breakfast goes but well worth it. The sausage & bacon are top tier cuts of meat & definitely stood out the most. The rye bread was also quite exceptional. Areas of improvement for me would be the Hash browns. They are a standard McCains style deep fried crispy type, which is totally fine. I think this plate otherwise deserves more attention. I know peeling & cutting potatoes is every kitchens least favorite task but I think it would take the plate over the top to have a fresh hash browns sat beside those beautiful cuts of meat. That with 2 slices of orange, is all I could see partnering & amplifying this plate to perfection. A true 4.5/5 for a breakfast, we will definitely order again!
I'd rate the Hollander significantly lower but want to share with others my experience. I came in with a small group over the weekend. Service was friendly and the food was good but there were two big issues: 1 wow expensive! This is a tough issue because of inflation and the restaurant industry took an awfully hard hit during the pandemic. I read the owner's response a few days ago to another review addressing this. But here's my situation: I got a classic two egg breakfast and coffee/tea was NOT complimentary. Before tax and tip, that's $16.88. This is more expensive than Jax on Bronson, a well established breakfast spot. I looked up other local spots to compare pricing and every place was more affordable. So I just want to point out that while Hollander had to increase the pricing on some menu items, I think it's also important for the owner to be aware of what other nearby spots are offering. Our bill for a two egg classic, breakfast poutine, coffee and tea came to $51.20 more on this below. I think that's a bit much - we weren't prepared for such a big bill on a quaint, simple meal. 2 A 20% gratuity was added to our bill and it was not disclosed to the table. Our server didn't mention anything or point it out before they processed each bill's payment. Now the percentage is not an issue but many in our group were unaware and tipped on top of that possibly another 20%!...I find that sneaky and that the restaurant took an opportunity to take advantage of a group that wanted to support a local business. Finding out on our bill that our coffee and tea were not complimentary and a 20% gratuity was snuck on there without being informed just all felt like a tourism trap in my own city.
Food was great, I would definitely go back when I'm in Ottawa again. Don't get fooled, place looks like a small bistro and I almost didn't go in because of that but never judge a book by its cover.. this place was great!
