We live in the neighborhood of the wealthy butcher and as much as we've tried to make this place work for us over the years, unfortunately the sheer consistent unfriendly service as well as the constant bait and switch at the register has made it impossible for us to return. From reading the other reviews, this seems to be an ongoing complaint, although one the company hasn't taken to heart as the problem still exists. Hoping for better.
Update: For the first time ever, I'm updating a review from 4 to 5 stars as it is warranted in this situation. After my review, I called to put in an order and dealt with Eric, the Head Butcher. We had quite the conversation and he reaffirmed my general feelings about the quality staff at this establishment... and the product was, as usual, superb. I'm hoping that they address the few shortcomings that can actually sully even the best relationship. I will happily continue to maintain my "meat exclusivity" with this business. ************************************* It hurts me to not give this place five stars as the products are good and, for the most part, the staff is really good. My problem is always when the management overrides all of that. I have used the Queen Street branch that is now closed for years and am now prepared to travel to the Eglinton store. I have found the management in the butcher department horrid. In particular, there's a female who behaves as if she's managing a camp for errant youth. She's militant, abrupt, and authoritarian, and one gets the belief that she thinks that she's doing customers a favour. Having used this company exclusively for meat for years, it always grates when someone like that comes on with a "we don't do this" and "we don't do that" when it's always been done! They're always prepared to say "we don't" while I find that the other staff is usually up to saying "let's see how we can work this out". That's the service that they give why I feel that they now have a tip option. I don't care much about the prices as I pay for good but inconsistency is grating... and when you sell at a certain price point, there is an expectation of a level of service that leadership seems to have forgotten.
High quality food. But stop with the tip. Groceries are already very expensive, it's disrespectful to ask a tip in a grocery store. What added services that customers are recieving other than putting our items in a plastic bag?
Expensive but worth it. They don't always have the products on their website in stock, so they should update it to "currently out of stock" because sometimes I place orders and the main things I want aren't included. Had I known they wouldn't be available I wouldn't have placed the order. Better to call ahead before you make the order through FreshCity. Otherwise, great people great products.
The best Organic meat and groceries I ever experienced in GTA with a large selection and cheerful staff. I love going to this store. Workshops are fun and very informative - we are planning to take another one soon with my wife and friends.
Recently purchased produce that were moldy and wilted. Bottom line: food is not fresh, unfriendly service cashier and over priced!
I recently heard your Queen St location closed down. While your meat is of high quality, I feel this happened related to karma. The poor quality of customer service skills at your Queen Street location and the lack of accepting cash transactions, when it has already been scientifically proven Covid-19 doesn't stick to cash bills, is partly why it failed. Many other businesses, like downtown Ikea think people don't care about cashless transactions, yet I can assure you customers DO care!!! Again, your products are of high quality and you can taste a major difference in your ground beef, however, I am posting this review to educate Healthy Butcher. I work in a similar industry concerned about Covid. You know what a cheap, realistic solution is regarding cash transactions? It's called wearing latex free gloves. Problem solved. LCBO does it. My goal is for your business to learn from it's mistakes, or you can disregard my review, it's your business after all, run it how you feel will make you the most money.
One of the best butchers in Toronto. The quality of the meat is obvious and that is reflected in the price. Despite the cost of shopping here, they have succumb to tipping culture and have adding an option to tip their cashiers while checking out. I hate this. It’s the responsibility of the employer to pay their staff a living wage and not the patrons.
Some of the freshest produce and top quality meats you can find. You have to be prepared to pay for the quality here, but I've tried a number of cuts of beef and they are worth every penny. Their organic beef/veal stock and waygu brisket helped me put together my best beef bourguignon yet.
I’ve purchased lamb and beef from here before so I know that it is amazing and of high quality, but it was my first time purchasing dairy products from here. Great selection of quality, local, organic and healthy products. The Buffalo yoghurt is thick, rich and creamy. The staff are always kind, helpful and knowledgeable about the products. The store is always clean and well organized. Great experience, I highly recommend this store.
