The Halal Guys

VERY POOR! I know this restaurant from NY city where I used to stand in a very long line in the street to get my amazing plate of rice/ beef/chicken with their signature white sauce! This restaurant is noting compared on the one in NY! No way they are under same name! The place is clean and nice but the service is terrible! The food portions are very small compared to NY! Even the taste is not the same! Only the sauce is the same Rating?! This is a false rating driven by the restaurant!! When they opened they got very poor rating 3.1 then they made a smart trick! Write a good review and get free coke! Can you believe it?! I tried it like 4/5 times and has been always disappointing! I will never go there again and will never recommend to anyone! Just like the one in NYC! I had high expectations coming here and my experience today exceeded them. My friend and I ordered the chicken and beef platter, the falafel wrap and the fries. There was no line, my meal was prepared hot and quick, the chicken was juicy and well seasoned and the portions were generous. Highly recommend getting a side order of their crispy fries!!! They are crinkle cut! And they are amazing!!! That white sauce can make everything a thousand times better. Don’t drown your sorrows in alcohol, drown them in white sauce.

Tastes as good as the one in NYC! Got the combo platter with both beef and chicken for $17! The platter was huge with a good serving of rice, lettuce and other veggies of your choice tomatoes, onions, green peppers. I had it with just the white sauce. This tasted amazing! The seasoning and spice on the beef with the white sauce over the chicken and rice was delicious. Make sure you asked them for an extra packet of white sauce or any sauce of your liking, I made the mistake of forgetting and regretted it… Highly recommend anyone who wants a great filling meal to come here!

Was looking forward to trying this for quite some time and now I', kind of surprised that it wasn't that good, their platters are just average. Their white sauce was by far the best part but their meat is sliced very thin and it's prone to being dry. The veggies are fresh and crisp but as a whole there wasn't anything that jumped out at you.

Slow lineup given the food is already prepped. Chicken was extremely bland and lacking colour showing lack of seasonings and maillard reaction. Beef gyro was decent. Serving size is good, staff is great. Seating, cleanliness and location is great. Hot sauce is spicy! Listen to the sauce dude.

Ordered it for takeaway Soooo good!! Really filling too & i got the smaller size. Generous portions for sure. White sauce.. so good. They sell a take home pack for the sauce ;D Tried other Halal Guys outlets before and this is on par. Friendly staff & no line when I went on a weekday afternoon.

Really excited to finally have one of these in Calgary! I went on opening day with a few friends so the line was pretty long but totally worth it. I would recommend to get all 3 of the sauces or just the white and garlic sauce if you don’t like spicy food. Really appreciated the hospitality from the manager/owner as well. Would recommend giving this place a shot if you haven’t yet.

Had the most amazing experience at Halal Guys, I’ve been to multiple locations in the US and this one was the best one I’ve been to! The food was amazing and the service was speedy. I had the combo platter, and was beyond satisfied with how it tasted. The manager was very welcoming as well. Highly recommend to anyone in Calgary.

We have heard about THG in the US and was delighted to know they have one in Calgary we were transiting for few hours! On our way, I checked the Google review and this very negative post was at the top of all reviews! Became abit skeptical but thought we give it a try anyways! The food was PERFECT - it's excellent! Service was awesome and food was quickly served. Clean and warm atmosphere. I saw the free drink poster if you wrote a review - didn't take that up but here I am - a genuinely happy customer! I was so excited when they announced that Halal Guys was opening a location in Calgary. I was lucky enough to try them in Los Angeles 3 years ago. I waited a bit before trying so they can orion things out and for the initial craze to die down. There was still a line when we visited one evening. It took a wild to get my food as they were cooking up a fresh batch of chicken. I ordered the combo platter which had both beef and chicken. Each component was flavorful, but what brought this all together was slathering the hot sauce and sweet sauce all over. That's the classic Halal Guys meal I remembered fondly. Can't wait to eat here again.
