The Green Door Restaurant

About

A very popular, busy, casual, self-serve pay-by-weight buffet. Close to downtown with plenty of on-street parking.

The Green Door Restaurant is a culinary jewel nestled in a small corner of the nation’s capital - right across the street from St. Paul’s Seminary. It is, as the name implies, a vegetarian/vegan organic and locally sourced eatery. That being said, I’ve never met a confirmed carnivore who did not appreciate the epicurean delights served up hot, six days a week. Prepare to rub elbows, this place is popular! The annoyance of inevitable road construction and killer roadside parking will give way to a wonderful lunch or dinner time experience. Lots of variety, delicious desserts, buffet style, friendly family atmosphere, great staff, licensed, closed Mondays.

Vegetarian. Organic. Local. Great selection. Buffet is so huge you possibly can't try even fifth of selections. Don't go over-board. Just select some items and enjoy. Leave others for next trip. I know it is difficult to resist. Simple rustic decor.

Stopped by for a lunch after hearing many good things for a long time about Green door. The place is a lot bigger than I ever thought, clean looking. Weary of the price weight ratio I kept small portions of most items but for twenty bucks for two plates I didn't find it expensive at all. Perhaps people think buffet style should be cheaper, but it was a big enough portion to fill up for sure. There was less selection than I would have thought but the food was diversified and tasty😎. Very cheap wine/beer too any day of the week. Local art was a nice touch but in this day and age of restaurants trying to stand out it could definitely use more decor/design elements.

The best natural foods restaurant in Ottawa. I have going there for decades. Food is excellent, choice widely varied and plentiful. Staff are kind and helpful. Recommend it highly... a 5 star restaurant.

Positive - Organic and local farm produce Negative - Taste, choice, price, atmosphere, appearance. I went with my other half after reading the positive reviews but it was quite disappointing. First, everything on the menu was very basic compared to what I already cook at home and I'm no chef. No impressed but as its self service it should be good value, right? Wrong. $38 for 2 plates not including drink or desert! That's crazy expensive for a plate of boiled vegetables, lentils and slice of lasagna and also considering there is not service, fill your own plate cafeteria style dinning and very basic food. I hate being negative but even the taste wasn't inspiring from the "fresh" local produce. I don't get the appeal. Yes, vegetarians can eat anything on the menu...but you my as well buy local vegetables, cook at home and have the same meal and more positive atmosphere. Advice -Make a few dishes which challenge you. -Reduce your prices...Whats can justify your current prices?
