The Fur Trade at Lachine National Historic Site

Story

Small but very interesting museum. Great for kids and parents with plenty of interactive displays that explains the importance and evolution of the fur trade and its pivotal role it played in defining Canada.
What a wonderful museum! When I arrived, there was no one there but the two guides -- two kind and friendly guys named Alex. They helped me get situated in the neighborhood and really taught me so much about the history of Canada, the fur trade, and how Montréal fits into all this, with trade routes, various Native American societies, and a tricky set of rapids. All the text is in both English and French, and it seems like they're both very competent in both languages too. They could not have been sweeter hosts. I'm so happy to have met them and to have learned so much!
Very nice site if you are looking for a little bit of nature in the city.
Small but great place for learning that history.
Worth a visit. More for kids but adults could learn a few things. I wished they were more transparent on how the aboriginals were really treated durong the trade. Canada really needs to become more transparent about its past especially at a place of learning like museums. Hopefully this will change in the future.
The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. This historical site is run by Parks Canada. The exhibit itself had a lot of information and cool artifacts. The location is in the original building and the area is beautiful to walk or cycle around. I will definitely re-visit this site.
Free parking if you walk inside to get a ticket. Fairly small but being able to touch the pelts is nice. The surrounding park and river path is beautiful
My kids loved the museum. They can dress up and draw. They also loved touching the different furs. It is only one room but I learned a lot.
Good if you have their points card
One of the most beautiful parks to go to. The fishing is great, so don't forget to bring your fishing gear along with a picnic basket.
