Went here for a brunch. While they could hold a large group, the wait staff seemed very confused. We had to ask for simple things like water, salt and pepper, butter, silverware. They never brought it out in a timely fashion or together, often asking us how many we wanted. Everyone who ordered some type of eggs Benedict had at least one egg if not both that were over cooked. I would not recommend this place for brunch.

How would you describe perfection? Whatever that may be, it's what The Essex brings to the table. This place is great whether you are coming for a family vacation, a romantic getaway or getting some alone time. The staff is always friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to help you out. The food is out of this world at both of their restaurants and the bar has a great selection of beer. I've been here three times already and my family can't wait to go back again. Try booking through Travelocity as they tend to have great deals. Also pet friendly, just let them know you're bringing your furry friend with you when you book.

For the amount we payed for the room it wasn't worth it. Stayed here for a wedding and even with the discounted price was way more expensive than what it was worth. The shower was not fully cleaned, the basket that the shampoos were in had black mold at the bottom, the door I had to slam shut to make sure it actually shut or it would stay partially open. Trash can in the bathroom I had to search for. I was surprised that breakfast was not included which was disappointing considering the amount that I payed for the room. The front desk staff was super rude. They didn't hand things out to the wedding guests like they said they would. All around disappointing, could have paid less and gotten better quality and more at a different hotel.

There are about four or five different buildings for the resort but the signage is very minimal and they are small, so it was a little hard to tell where to go for the private event I was going to. The food was good. It's a culinary resort, but I wouldn't say it's top notch, "best of the best". The staff I spoke to were friendly. I sampled a "mousse" made with chocolate and stout. Since it was a beer and cider tasting, I was excited to try this. To me, it tasted like Hershey's syrup and cool whip/whipped cream and a tiny, tiny, hint of stout. I wasn't impressed. The venue was nice, needed a few repairs, but it was nice. I know it's a very expensive place to stay, so I can't help but wonder why they can't fix the rickety lock on the main bathroom stall door. Not trying to be rude, just an observation. Over all, I can't say too much because I was just here for a 2 hour event. I'm sure it's a great spa and a great place to stay.

We are regular visitors the the Essex. The rooms are lovely, and we really enjoy the resort amenities. Check in wasn't great this particular visit - we arrived around 5pm, and no one was at the desk. A few minutes later, someone came and apologized for the wait (not a problem), but handed us off to a trainee who would take us at the next register. Someone came in looking for pastry, which is now oddly located at the registration desk, and jumped in front of us and were served first. All in all not an enormous amount of inconvenience, but not the level of hospitality we are accustomed to at the Essex.
