My first time back at The Dam Pub since they relocated to Meaford and their food and drinks are still wonderful! They were kind enough to make the Jack Daniels Caesar like I used to have at their previous location. My brother enjoyed their Auchentoshan whiskey dram and my husband loved their ginger drink. To start, we enjoyed their French onion soup and shared their deep fried haggis. For main, I went back to my favourite dish - their lamb shank. We also had the burger and bangers and mash. My brother really enjoyed their frozen peanut butter pie. Look forward to coming here every time we're in the area, it's definitely our tradition!
The Dam Pub is “dam” good!! We visited for lunch today and were impressed with the atmosphere, food, and service. The restaurant moved from Thornbury to Meaford and is a wonderful addition to the main street corridor.nnThe decor and atmosphere is cozy, like a British pub, and the whiskey wall, with over 1,000 types of whiskey is a cool and unique feature! A neat wall display shows a picture of John Catucci from “You Gotta Eat Here!”, which makes me want to watch the episode S1.E14!nnOur server, Megan, was very friendly and provided excellent service! The daily specials Cauliflower Cheddar Soup, Eggs Benedict combo sounded tasty, but we had our hearts set on certain dishes. We ordered Classic Calamari, Wee Shepherd’s Pie, and Fish & Chips.nnThe food was delicious and nicely presented - compliments to the chefs! The calamari was enjoyed by all and not rubbery like some calamari can be. The fish & chips were fried perfectly, with crispy batter and tender fish. The tartar sauce was tangy and tasty. The shepherd’s pie with the house salad exceeded expectations. The house salad was exceptional and offered a variety of flavours.nnOverall, we had a “dam” good experience and will visit again! :
A Wednesday, driving through Grey County, between Owen Sound and Thornbury, rests Meaford. A somewhat unassuming little town which the highway cuts through.nIf the need to stop hits you - find The Dam Pub!nThe wall, actually “walls” of whisky, from around the world or at least what the LCBO will sell in Ontario is what drew me in. And as much as I wanted to take a flight for a test, my requirement to stay on the road back home drove some constraint.nScotland, Ireland, Japan, US and of course Canadian even Ontario whiskies fill the “wall”.nOh, and they have food as well.nWe were having a late lunch so enjoyed a burger and fish & chips.nThe batter was light and fish cooked perfectly as it lay across a bed of perfect chips.nThe burger, home made and thick, with fries and two well placed and large onion rings.nBoth dishes were good, but a bit bland for our pallet.nI washed down the burger with a local Thornbury lager.nShould you go, yes.nIt is worth the stop to just see the “wall”.nMy next visit, my wife will be driving.nI would be a bit more adventurous on our next visit and let my wife drive home.
Exceptional Dining & Service!nnOur dinner was absolutely outstanding,Finger-Licking Good!nnThe Frizzled Short Rib was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor, topped with crispy frizzled onions and a rich demi jus.nnThe Dam Lamb Shank was perfectly braised, fall-off-the-bone tender, and seasoned beautifully. Both dishes came with fresh, well-prepared veggies that complemented the meal perfectly.nnThe customer experience was just as exceptional—the staff was welcoming, helpful in selecting dishes, and made us feel truly valued.nnA fantastic dining experience—highly recommended!
We love our local pub for so many things. Great food, friendly, attentive staff, fun, informative events and such a vibe.nnI’m not a whiskey drinker but the owner and Whiskey Sommelier, Stephanie, is slowly changing that. With their exceptional variety of whiskeys and monthly whiskey tastings I’m becoming a fan! We’re ‘travelling the world’ through whiskey as Stephanie enlightens us with all kinds of interesting and fun facts.nnThe British style pub fare is delish and there are daily food specials. The $100 per person I’ve chosen was for a Japanese whiskey tasting and a three course dinner each. Check it out soon!
