The Cookbook Co Cooks

Story

The Cookbook Co. Cooks store and school is a culinary hub for Calgary. It all started in 1984 and has since grown to become a place for people who cook and love to eat good food.

We believe that good food doesn't have to be complicated or pretentious. We want to try to demystify gourmet food, and its preparation. Good food is about having fun in the kitchen. Preparing good food should not be about stressing out – its about sharing and exploring and enjoying the slicing and dicing!

Our 11th Avenue location features 3,000 sq feet of delicious retail space and we have recently expanded into another 1,500 sq feet for our new cooking school space. It will play host to over hundreds of cooking classes, wine classes, specialty dinners and workshops each year, hosted by the best chefs, food professionals, and authors in our city and guest chefs from across Canada. Our cooking classes are casual, entertaining, and informative.

The underlying belief of The Cookbook Co. Cooks is to emphasize the enjoyable part of food, cooking, and time spent together in the kitchen and at the table....

You have to eat - so it might as well be interesting!

Had a really great time here at the Christmas Baking Class. Learnt some new techniques and made lots of delicious goodies! They also have us wine along the way too! It's pricy but well worth it for a really fun time. There's a cute store upstairs as well full of baking goods and cooking stuff.
Disappointed. The vegetarian class was disorganized and chaotic. This is partly to blame because of the space the class took place in: not at all adequate for the job. The advertised 'head chef' from Community, a lovely woman btw, was in fact the produce manager of Community. No knock on her abilities but the Cookbook Co. should advertise their events correctly. Cancelled an upcoming class because of the experience in the vegetarian one.
If you love cooking, you owe it to yourself to check out the Cookbook Co. The customer service is awesome, and the store has lots of neat cookbooks, equipment and ingredients you might not find elsewhere. I was told that after Covid-19 clears up, they'll offer cooking classes. Also, there's a great wine store attached to it. Good stuff!
Won a contest to attend the vegetarian cooking night! We made some neat food items, got to use new types of ingredients black garlic ??, and got some leftovers for home too. : The recipe was a bit confusing to follow along with but the chef usually circulated around the room to help out. Overall a nice experience, but I’m not normally vegetarian so I wish the flavours were a bit stronger and the food more hardy.
I think is all depends on the chef, ingredients they provided are good. Menu to cook is ok. We had our Christmas party there and really is alright but not great.
We had our Corporate Retreat, and as one of the teambuilding events we had our final dinner here. The food was outstanding, and the wine pairings did not disappoint! The wine service was always prompt, and your glass was never empty. We highly recommend the sommelier offering to any event you have here. Our Chef Matthew was absolutely incredible - hands down the best instructor in town. He was so funny, quick to assist, and was easily able to captivate a large crowd of 20 people. He made an excellent accommodation for difficult dietary restrictions, and ensured our whole group had taken the precautions needed for our gluten sensitive attendees to eat. Our team loved him, and raved for days after about him. The space was wonderful, and the setting was lovely and intimate which is exactly what we wanted for our retreat theme. I couldn't rave more about an experience, this group is incredibly professional, efficient, warm, and welcoming. We'd give them more stars if we could, and would absolutely recommend to any other company looking for a unique corporate experience to team build. Well done, thanks again!
My husband and I spent yesterday evening learning how to make stuffed pasta. We had a wonderful time! Melissa the instructor was great, and our pasta and drinks were delicious. It was so much fun and good value. We'll definitely come back and try another.
A fantastic adventure into culinary joy. You will find yourself immersed in hard to find, delicious and curious items when you walk in. A must see for all food lovers.
This is my second time to Cookbook Co. The staff are extremely helpful and have either a hands on or off approach depending on the groups cooking/baking level. The recipes are tasty and vary in difficultly. It's a great place to do team building exercises.
Ching Li is such an excellent instructor. I have had her before and was so glad she was the host of this class. I enjoyed the new style of cooking where you make all meals. Great experience I will definitely be back to cookbook co. I'll be sure to keep my eyes out for classes where Ching Li is the instructor.
