This used to be a pub, but has been taken over by Forest Distillery to make their gin and whisky mainly. There's a shop, a bar area drinks and bar snacks only, no food and the tour area seating for whisky and gin tours. The location is amazing with picturesque views of the Peaks, and I presume some lovely walks nearby. We drove, and you have to put your registration details into an iPad in the shop to avoid getting a parking ticket. You have to book a table or tour in advance and I don't think they accept 'walk-ins'. The whisky tour was interesting, mainly to hear about the company history and see how they made and stored the whisky. I'm not sure all of the information about the history and traditional whisky making processes were completely accurate, from having been on lots of distillery tours in Scotland. As part of the tour, you had 1 drink of your choice from their board to start. After the tour of the distillery and cellars, we were given 2 very small whisky taster samples of the blended whisky that was bought in and a small taster of their batch of brandy. There wasn't any option to try their own single malt, possibly because they'd run out, and their next batch is due in March/April this year. Then were offered 1 more drink to finish. I tried the earl grey gin to finish, which was quite nice. I appreciate that this is a small independent distillery, but the prices of everything in the shop seemed very high.
Friendly service, great pies, lovely interior, tasty gins. My favourite was a Earl Grey gin and spiced orange ginger ale. The 26 year old single malt is very good but a bit pricey at £150 a bottle. A great destination. Would highly recommend
Fantastic afternoon up at the Forest Distillery. Lovely to learn all about the history of the business and how the whisky is made. Very excited to see how October 6th tasting goes. Many thanks to Lucy and Grace.
Had a great day, specially liked the Earl grey gin, Thank you lucy & Grace great host's. Lovely to to hear how it all started. Would highly recommend you book the tour.
My car took a battering up to cat an fiddle but once there the trek to the three shires and beyond doing the loop around back to cat an fiddle was excellent, fantastic views and scrambling over rocks through streams a delight. Highly recommended.
Finished up here after a misty walk and delighted to find that while tables for food have to be pre-booked, there was a drop-in drinks table free. Lovely place, very welcoming, and decent drinks.
Was going to say what a great little pub,but it's not a pub it's a whiskey distillery.only stopped off for a coffee and toilet.they do a great coffee and a worm welcome.Look great inside with that log burner.
Andy and Holly were on our tour but all onsite are amazing friendly staff, very good tour. This was a late brithday present and I've really enjoyed it! Gin lovers should definately do this tour!
Just dropped by to have a great coffee with view. Cute little shop selling their own gins, whiskeys, local ales, gin&soda in cans etc but things are not the cheapest. Looks like you need to pre book for a table at the bar / distillery tour. Seems very popular.
My partner and I did the gin tour here ran by Andy and Holly and we can’t recommend it highly enough. It was informative, funny and relaxed, with a brilliant backstory for the distillery. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, and the Forest Gin was delicious!
