Being in a tight bind and needing a place to get work done, I stopped by the Brake Room hoping they could help me out. I had an important meeting I needed to participate in, and I didn’t have my Mac book charger with me so things were not looking hot. Although a long shot, I didn’t have many other options at that point and thought that as a cafe, maybe someone would be able to help me out. After telling them my predicament, I was very pleased to hear that they could aid me in my dire situation. I was told that in a few minutes, I would have charger in hand. I was extremely relieved. The owner then left on a bike, to what I presume was his own home. A few minutes later, he returned with the charger I needed. Amazing! That was an awesome experience, and I am extremely grateful for the service they provided. The experience was not to be outdone by their food and drink, which includes a very nice variety of hot drinks, craft beers and great pastries/treats. Oh, and cocktail and food on Friday nights.. definitely would recommend. Thank you Brake Room!

You can tell that a lot of thought went into the design and aesthetics of the place--even their coffee cups are aesthetically pleasing. Atmosphere wise, the brake room has more of a Toronto or hip PEC vibe, in the sense that it's one of those cool little coffee shops in your neighbourhood with a definite scene. Service is exceptional: bearded barista was very pleasant and super nice (5 stars, easily). But just like in Toronto, the prices here are sky high. Can't say I'm a huge fan of their coffee, actually. For nearly $5 bucks I was expecting a little more. Perhaps part of the premium price is due to their fancy paper cups? Love that they cater to vegans (few places in town do), but a $10 vegan sandwich is simply unappetizing to me. That said, I absolutely love the shear creativity that went into creating a dual business that operates out of a converted auto repair shop. This aspect alone makes the brake room a special place to visit.

Adam, Kaleb and Grace make this place really hospitable to new customers and returning ones alike. Apart from their bike sales and repairs, the coffee is very high quality and they're one of the only few spots to give you a choice between raw sugar and xylitol which, bring a dentist, I recommend to my patients myself. Their GINGER COOKIE is amazing and so is their SPICY PLANTAIN CHIPS.
