Reviews
Tate + Yoko offers a unique boutique shopping experience. I have purchased several pairs of Naked and Famous products both in-store and online. Their customer service is awesome, and their approach to denim is both superior and approachable. I'm writing this review wearing a pair of left-hand twill Easy Guys.
Ordered some jeans online - two times actually. The first time, I ordered the incorrect size. Tate & Yoko made the returns process extremely easy, which I really appreciated since I spent almost $200 on a nice pair of jeans and was worried about cross-border returns. The return was accepted quickly, and they applied my store credit to my next purchase, which went super-smooth. On my second purchase, I requested custom inseam tailoring, which was done perfectly and did not require an additional trip to my US tailor here in Maryland. I'll definitely continue to use Tate & Yoko for future purchases!
Bought jeans that my son wanted. He like them very much and they are very well made. My only issue is he thought he might need the next larger size, but I could not also order those, then return whichever pair didn’t work, as I would not be able to get a refund, only store credit. My order did arrive very promptly.
Aside from good ol' timeless and trustworthy Levi's, Naked & Famous are the only other jeans I wear. I love the brand's raw denim-only, made-in-Canada/Japan, and overall creative and playful philosophy—their use of colours, yarns and yarn-dyeing methods, different fabric textures and fabric weights makes a staple item like jeans fun to wear and style, and attention to details like waist patches lookin' at you, Holstein milk selvedge and Flower of Carnage, selvedge IDs vulgar, rivets, and even the ziplock packaging that I didn't know I need and eventual fade produced through wear sets them apart from other denim brands, especially over-priced designers—Naked & Famous are what designer denim should aspire to produce. Despite current denim trends back to loose, wide-leg fits, I've purchased three pairs of Super Guy from Tate + Yoko so far: natural seed, grey selvedge, and recycled stone blue, but I own a pair of then-SuperSkinnyGuy wax-coated black stretch purchased elsewhere, and having that as a frame of reference helped minimise sizing concerns since I can't physically try them on, and it's so helpful that Tate + Yoko post detailed measurements with the acceptable +/- tolerance I even made a spreadsheet for each pair I wanted and their respective measurements to further minimise sizing headaches. Tate + Yoko's brands and products are curated with consideration , which makes shopping joyfully easy; it's not a random hodgepodge of goods, but a careful aesthetic that is denim culture: laid-back and casual, but very cool with just the right amount of quirk. My only gripe is USD prices, but their adoption of Sezzle was nice to offset the ~25% conversion increase into palpable quarter payments. That said, Tate + Yoko's prices are so reasonable for the quality of products they carry; definitely one of the online shops I frequent. UPDATE: bought a Yuketen khaki Italian suede cap—love it.
The major down side is the return policy. Read carefully before buying. I bought a pair of jeans on a holiday weekend sale to save a few bucks off regular price. Any sale items are not eligible for returns. Even then, you only get store credit at best. No exchanges possible. It just makes it way to hard to get that perfect fit pair of jeans. Just a bit disappointed with the process. I just want the pair of jeans I ordered in the right size but this is way to hard. Only order if you absolutely sure your sizing. I even measured multiple times against their chart.
I Ordered a pair of jeans the first few hours of the Canada sale. I was informed after the sale closed, 5 days after i placed my order, that the jeans i purchased was unavailable. I was offered free shipping $5 savings for my trouble. Which is pretty insulting. I've been a loyal t&y customer for 7+ years. #Notimpressed.
Quality of their T-shirts are not as good as I remember from a couple years ago. Ive bought their 100% cotton double ring spun t-shirts since 2014 because of their quality. Now their t-shirts are made from 80-90% cotton and I feel they dont hold their shape like the older t-shirts. it's unfortunate, their old heather grey 100% cotton t-shirts were my favorite for years
This was my first purchase of Naked & Famous through Tate+Yoko and it was a great experience. I bought a pair of the duck canvas and they were delivered promptly. I follow Tate+Yoko online to see the new releases and would definitely buy again.
Used the measuring guide to ensure I knew what I was getting, placed the order, jeans arrived in 10 days. I was a bit worried ordering the Superguy, jeans were snug but have started loosening up for a perfect fit! Milk denim is soooo comfortable. Don’t need anymore jeans at the moment, but hope to someday place another order.
I like the store, I’ve bought plenty of stuff. I wish you had a better exchange or return policy. I recently bought some jeans that were on sale, but bought the wrong size by accident. Now I have a pair of size 28 jeans I’ll never wear but can’t return.
