Genuinely the best meal I've had in Ottawa. I have low expectations for Chinese food in this area for good reason, but everything we ate here was SO good and well-priced for portions. We got the pork belly with pickled cabbage and black pepper beef, along with the cold noodles. We didn't really know what to expect with the cold noodles since it didn't have a description and we figured it was something like regular dry chili oil noodles, but it actually came in a soup which reminded one of yuzu: it was a great balance of sour and sweet which was extremely refreshing and complemented the meat PERFECTLY. the meat itself came in generous portions with great seasoning. We came at around 3/4pm which we figured wouldn't be very busy, and we were the only ones there and received excellent and friendly service. I literally can't recommend this place more enough for good food which isn't insanely overpriced in Ottawa.
I've been here 2x so far. The first time it was on a quiet weekday evening so I guess the service was better and the chef was able to accommodate my dietary needs. I am allergic to honey and since their beef marinade contains honey, the chef was able to provide an alternative marinade. Was excited to take my sister there but the second time I went was on a Sunday and I guess it was too busy to be accommodating and whip up a new marinade. I understood that part but the service was not great. Their Chinese pancake wrap is easily the best thing aswell as their peanut sauce. I ordered the pickled cabbage which was not brought over. I had called over the server 2x to get a refill on the Chinese pancake wrap, and then I had to get up and tell the other server up at the counter for the 3rd time. So that was irritating. 2 servers during the weekend rush is not ideal. It is hard getting their attention, and they tend to prioritize and pay more attention to bigger parties. There was a table behind us that was a party of 4, and I noticed the server paid more attention to them vs. my party of 2. They had ordered refills at the same time as I provided a second reminder about the Chinese pancake wrap but the female server forgot my order but remembered the party of 4's order. I had to get up and mention it to the male server in the end. Anyways, that was off-putting, so I don't know if I'll be back.
Great portions and super fresh food. We ordered the prime beef, duck, beef tongue, lamb shoulder, mushrooms, sweet potatoes and pickled cabbage with Chinese pancake wrap. Everything tasted great, especially the chefs special cumin spice that they provide!nnOne major con is that due to the lack of servers and how busy it gets, it was really difficult to get their attention when we needed help with the grill or if we wanted to order other dishes.nnWould highly recommend to make reservations!
Best Chinese bbq and authentic smoked meat restaurants in Ottawa. Not Japanese as the name might suggest. Run by a Chinese couple, their food is affordable and delicious. Today is our second visit and we’re pleasantly surprised to see that they have expanded by 60%.
10/10 food, 10/10 service and 10/10 atmosphere!! My partner and I were so amazed when we discovered this Chinese style barbecue restaurant! The meat was well seasoned and the service was fast and our waitress was soooo attentive girl brought out extra napkins before I even said anything!! Also had perilla leaves?!?? Crazy!nnThe ventilation system was also great our clothes didn’t really smell once we were finished! 1-2 meat dishes are good for 2 people.nnHACK: get the beef and enoki mushrooms to make little rollups!
