nnTakumi BBQ is fantastic! The menu offers a wide variety of meats, seafood, and sides, all fresh and full of flavor. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and variety you get. It’s a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family.nnThe only minor downside is that service can be a bit slow during busy hours, but the staff are friendly and attentive. Overall, excellent food, great selection, and good value — highly recommend!
Last year there was only two casual Ottawa eateries among 50 Chinese restaurants across Canada from Vancouver to Montreal hoping to make the cut for a prestigious national list of Chinese eateries, and one was non other Takumi BBQ in Merivale trying for a spot of the Elite 30 Chinese Restaurant of Canada Awards where the Vancouver based awards organization reached out to 15 advisors across Canada, including this writer, to solicit recommendations of noteworthy Chinese restaurants at all price points.nnThis 100 seat grill it yourself restaurant features the food of the Dongbei region in Northeast China including not commonly seen menu items like beef intestinals, pork nose, aorta, etc ... Interesting they also have many halal options which is rare in Ottawa. Bits of raw garlic, jalapeno pepper and kimchi because eastern Dongbei borders North Korea added more assertive punches of flavour.nnEating at Takumi was as economical as it was quick and enjoyable. Not only were the platters of ingredients generous, sauces were free to start and so were refills. Carafes of hot, refreshing barley tea were also on the house.nnDislike of this restaurant was there are steps to front door and the washrooms located downstairs, not accessible nor senior friendly.
A wonderful surprise.nnThe food was absolutely delicious with big portion. The sauces and dry seasoning went perfectly with the meat. The grilled meat was also seasoned very well. The duck had a delicious amount of smoke to it.nnThe service was impeccable. Our grill was malfunctioning and the server helped us numerous times without complaint.nnOther bbq place would charge at least twice as much. I will definitely go back.
Great portions and super fresh food. We ordered the prime beef, duck, beef tongue, lamb shoulder, mushrooms, sweet potatoes and pickled cabbage with Chinese pancake wrap. Everything tasted great, especially the chefs special cumin spice that they provide!nnOne major con is that due to the lack of servers and how busy it gets, it was really difficult to get their attention when we needed help with the grill or if we wanted to order other dishes.nnWould highly recommend to make reservations!
The food, environment, and service were all spectacular. The food we had here were some of the best I've ever had in Ottawa.
