Service is solid here but the food really has gone downhill since we were here not much flavour, messily rolled sushi, etc. and of course more expensive. Our takeout experience was similarly lackluster.
Their salmon sashimi is better than most japanese restaurants. The staff were also attentive and fast. I'd visit again.
Sushi Oyama used to be one of our go-to places in the area but it's probably been a decade since our last visit. Located in the old Glenedward mansion Johnson House, the atmosphere is interesting. For those of you that don’t know… the enchanting mansion used to be the home of the Royal Oak Funeral Home until as late as 1981. Visited recently and ordered the sashimi grand slam which lets you pick and choose from a series of options got the salmon, tai, saba, and hamachi. The chicken yakiudon had very tender noodles. The oyster motoyaki used breaded oysters that were coated with a yellowy sauce not the best we've had. The inari 5 were huge pockets made from sweet tofu skin filled with rice and various toppings. Overall not bad in terms of food.
Great location, the value to quantity ratio is bang on, the variety of options is phenomenal, they do get busy but definitely worth the wait.
Impressive, good customer service and quickly with the order. We ordered Asahi beer Maki tray Kaki fry Assorted Tempura Cone triple
I've loved Oyama for a long time, but tonight I was utterly disappointed. Their standard of food quality has gone down hill over the past couple years. Sadly, after ordering take out, I had to throw most of it out. That was a waste of over priced sushi. The tempura prawns did not taste right, mealy, the shrimp was grey under the batter, not to say it was undercooked, but maybe the shrimp was over cooked or just started to go bad. The quality of the sound trap roll too was disgusting.
Tried alot of their rolls tonight. Lots of variety to choose from. Overall good.
AVOID THIS PLACE! UNFRIENDLY STAFF! Unfriendly staff + ripped off sushi ORDERED SASHIMI + COMBO SCAM I came in for lunch and was craving for sushi so I went to this place to check out what they offer. I ordered Sashimi/ combo for $20 hoping it will fill me up but Lo and behold I ended getting only 5+ pieces of Sashimi without the combo sushi. I know some Sushi place that offers $17 combo meal that can fill you up easily with getting ripped off.
Visited this place total of 3 times with friends or family, but never had a good experience with their service. Twice were just waitresses not wanting to spend time on taking the orders, but the 3rd time we had a angry dude straight up telling everyone in waiting area to get out of the door. Pretty bizarre. Food quality is very standard. This means if you can find a Japanese restaurant owned by Koreans anywhere else, you wouldn't be able to tell a huge difference. The actual restaurant is a house, with pretty nice interior decorations & there are also tables right beside the front door. The only down side is the KFC right next to it and it faces Kingsway if you choose to dine at the front door tables Probably won't visit again as food is average, but service has not been working out for me. The only memory I have with this place: Rude
Lion King roll 1st photo was so good.
