Chef Okamoto and the team at Sushi Kiwami made it a special night to celebrate a birthday with amazing food, great service and a relaxed but authentic ambiance. We enjoyed every bite, but the Hokkaido uni, blue fin tuna, and beluga caviar was out of this world. Yes it’s pricey but we thought for those milestone occasions it’s worth the treat.
Don’t understand all the hype about this place. Priced at 499+ per person for the top option, it is nothing close compared to the relatively similar priced options in the east coast including 1/2 Michelin star places. Weird course progression a beef dish between two fish dishes, sloppy knife skills, and mediocre rice. I guess they can charge their price due to no other competition but I’d rather save the money and go to better places elsewhere. Always some random rich/uncultured person who will fall for this restaurant. A friend of mine also went and had the same feeling about this restaurant as well. Won’t recommend and won’t be returning.
Honestly just mediocre. I'm on a one-omakase-a-week tour around BC, and this place fell way short for the price tag of $299. Compared to my favourite place so far Sushi Jin at $100 less, the flavour, attention to detail, service were all noticeably lacking at Kiwami. Every piece wasn't as flavourful, serving temperature wasn't as consistent, and the rice simply didn't complement the fish. New waitress working when asked what dish she put in front of me responded, "fried fish." Lol. If you're paying $299+ for an experience, the delivery better be polished. Sake options were expensive at $50+/bottle. Better sub-$25 options at Jin. Chef at Jin habitually gives extra treats to please guests. I was charged an extra $15 here without knowing lol. There were latecomers to most places I visited. Other places respect the on-time diners and don't compromise the experience to accommodate latecomers - Kiwami would. Felt rushed in feeding bursts, followed by wide gaps. Pacing wasn't comfortable. Anyways, at quality similar to Maumi for $80, abysmal Wagyu compared to Shu for $150 + $86 for 6x more/better Wagyu, Kiwami clearly not worth it at $299.
Fantastic Omakase! Four kind of Japanese Uni from Hokkaido was amazing quality. Must try!
amazing Valintines Day omakase dinner with Chef Yuta! the food was fresh and meticulously prepared, as authentic as our omakase in Japan! 10/10 would recommend my 2nd time
A truly authentic Japanese experience on par with the hidden sushi dens in Ginza. Highly recommend for those who value a slice of Japan right here in Canada. The chefs are Michelin trained and the hospitality is top tier. Perfect way to commentate a special occasion. Make sure to book reservations well in advance as they are booked up quite quickly. Base Omakase starts at $299.
Went with my family to this new Omakase spot for new year dinner. The food was delicious and staff was very nice. Happy new year! Definitely worth to go try it out.
We just randomly dropped by for Friday. And the food was amazing. It is costly, but i think it is worth for money. It definitely fit for some formal dinner, anniversary or special celebration.
The food is amazing. And all ingredients imported from Japan. Good, fresh and the atmosphere is wonderful.
Ingredients tasted like its been in the fridge for a long time, and it was not worth the money at all. Wouldnt even been worth 199 bucks to be honestThis was literally the worst omakase I've ever eaten. I don’t think the chef even took the time to wash his hands, it looked like his nail had just gone into a mud pit.nigiri Fish skin was not even removed… absolutely disgusting. Wouldn’t go a second time even if it was a free meal
