Been meaning to check out this place! The food was super tasty and fresh. The service prompt. The blood orange cocktail was so delicious. The place was busy but the staff were very attentive to everyone and everyone there was having a great time. The atmosphere was beautiful. I’d recommend a reservation though!Food: 5/5
Amazing restaurant, and amazing staff. The food was honestly hitting a great spot, and definitely will be going back. The tacos were 10/10, the staff was super friendly, and the vibes were definitely great. The chicken Taco's, were 10/10, could use a little less sauce, but still... Didn't take away from the 10/10. The pork tacos, were not spicy, but all you needed was the hot sauce on the table to make that perfect. All the food was gluten free, which makes this spot super authentic.
Love that Whitby is getting cool new restaurants like this. The decor and atmosphere are great, food and cocktails too. Menu is all gluten free and there are good vegetarian and vegan options. I wish they’d open for lunch so we could visit more often. And I’d suggest adding a non-alcoholic cocktail menu too. Vegetarian options: Good vegan options.
Omg! Loved it here!! The blood orange Margaritas Krista made me were on point! Delicious! The Golden cocktail was a close second place for me! K was a great barmaid/waitress at the bar! Absolutely loved the Street corn and Brussels sprouts small plates! I tried the Baja fish tacos and they were good. I preferred the braised beef ones; and the chicken ones were absolutely amazing! The jackfruit taco has a pulled pork type texture if you want a meat-free option. Love that everything is gluten free and easy to make dairy free while still tasting fabulous! The atmosphere was great, busy and happening even on a rainy Tuesday, great decor and lighting. Good variety of music. Couldn’t help but take a photo in front if the pink flamingos wallpaper in the bathroom!! It’s a must go to in downtown Whitby!! Thanks James for the great hospitality and service! Oh and park in the back parking lot if you can’t find on the street! Not expensive at all!! And free after 6!!
Ambiance was amazing, food was delicious, cocktails spectacular. My only teency tiny piece of feedback is service staff seemed a little stretched thin, nothing major, just the check in during the meal, drink checks and the bill delivery were far between. Nothing major, like I said and easily adjustable.Food: 5/5
For a night out in Durham, there are only a handful of places that know how to make great cocktails and new kid on the block Surf Kitchen is amongst the best spots. The one-pager menu is also worth checking out if you’ve got a hankering for soft-shell tacos. More importantly, come for the vibes!Food: 5/5
My girlfriend and I were in Dow town Whitby and decided to check out surf. It’s a small restaurant with not too many tables, but the ambiance is amazing. It feels like you’re on vacation in Mexico with the tropical plants and the margaritas. The bartenders really know how to make a great drink. For those of you that don’t drink be sure to check out all the food. The brussell sprouts had so much flavour, and the dip is irresistible
A downtown Whitby restaurant definitely worth visiting if you can reserve a table book in advance as it's as hot as it's chicken tacos! We had a table of 13 guests so took up a lot of room the day we were there but the team at Surf made the experience fun and were very accommodating. The restaurant ambiance was unique cool SoCal layout and design and the music upbeat and moving. The location may not be conducive for those looking to have a peaceful dinner but why should it when that's not the vibe it's going for. The restaurant makes a statement with its bold deco and layout. For food they have a controlled but eclectic menu and given the size of our dining group we had a chance to taste about everything. The flavours are authentic and truly delicious. Watch out for the chicken taco that definitely has a kick to it but we loved it even more for that very reason. I recommend some of that sauce on the side to liven up some of the other dishes if spice and flavour is your thing. Portions are decent but won't fill you up if you are hungry for a full dinner meal. Three tacos did it for me. Ask for their specials as the kitchen does change things up. A lot of vegetarian, gluten and dairy free options and servers are always willing to assist to ensure you have a solid dining experience. All their signature cocktails are tik-tok or insta worthy and loaded with sufficient alcohol. We enjoyed all the drinks we tried and they are as unique as their names. We asked for a spicy Fuego and oh baby did the bar deliver - knocked the pants right off our guest. Don't be afraid to push your drinking palate a little further than just beer. If there is one area I would fuss about it would be the parking situation but not even that would keep me and our dining group away for coming back. There is Green P and some street parking in and around the area. Special mention goes out to their Churro Sundae that is true to die for. We plan to stop in from time to time just to enjoy this decadent dessert - it's bowl scraping good with flavours like guava and canela coming together to wow the senses think party in your mouth!
This was my first time here, and I loved it. The place was quite small and was very busy since it was a Friday night. And since it was packed, it was quite loud. I could barely hear anything. However, despite it all, it was still a vibe and a nice place to grab something small to eat and drink. We made the mistake of ordering too many amazing appetizers that we were too stuffed to try the tacos, but they looked amazing, so we had to. I loved my baha fish taco, I've never had fish this crispy before, and I loved how the menu was vegetarian/vegan friendly. I'd definitely come back here again. Also, from their menu, I got the Habanero heat wave drink, fried Brussel Sprouts, Elote, guacamole, and chips the chips were fried fresh when we had it so bomb. As for the tacos other than my fish taco, I got the jackfruit, and my aunt got the chicken, which was so juicy and flavourful. Make sure you do get your name on a list if you're coming during peak hours. Vegetarian options: They have a variety of plant based and vegetarian options for their small menu, which is amazing. Parking: It was free street parking when we went else during other hours we'd have to pay. There was also a paid parking lot behind the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Bar setting and seats are very high, not recommended for kids.
What a great bar! Friendly staff, amazing cocktails and great food right downtown Whitby. What more can one ask for? Cocktails are top notch, with a twist on classics. The food menu was a pleasant surprise, easy to mix and match, goes well with drinks and is really enjoyable. Guacamole and Caprese tacos get special mention, together with a simple plate of olives that are easy to snack on... Instead of going to Toronto for cocktails and snacks Surf makes it easy to stay in Whitby and spend a great evening...
