I talked to Phoenix new owner on the phone today and she mentioned she doesn’t care about any Google reviews and encouraged me to post. She immediately hung up on me, so I decided to post this.nnShe talked over me the entire time and told me that I’m not allowed to wear shoes that mark their courts or black sole shoes - which I’ve agreed this is how it’s always been for ALL facilities. Phoenix banned all Nike shoes because someone marked their courts with Nike Air Force 1 shoes meant for street wear.nnBadminton has been in my life for 25 years and I’ve never had intentions of damaging courts, I’ve always been respectful and I’ve been a member since they opened I know they’re under new and questionable management now.nnMy intention was to ask her about my clear sole Nike shoes and she constantly talked over me. The whole time, I told her I agreed with her regarding not wearing shoes that damage the court. And she kept rambling about not wearing them and won’t let me ask any questions. She did finally tell me that as long as they’re clear then it’s fine and they’ve changed the rules again 2 days ago.nnShe did say that it doesn’t matter what shoes people wear and that even if they’re street shoes converse shoes specifically, players are allowed to wear these because they’re non-marking.nnRegardless of how respectful I was on the phone, she told me to just come get a refund for my membership and hung up abruptly. Which I do have plans on getting our whole group refunded. This really could’ve been resolved if Phoenix listened entirely instead of talking over/interrupting me. It was such a small issue and it’s a shame she was so explosive on the phone. I’m sure her employees will soon realize and I do hope she realizes how valuable they are - they were just doing their job and they were very patient and talked to me in a kind manner. Phoenix admitted that if her staff let guests in with Nike shoes then she’s going to fire her whole team and hire new people.nnFor those looking for respectful facilities with experienced management that know how to keep calm, I recommend Clear One, Smash City and Centre Avenue Badminton.nnIn response: as mentioned in my review, I do not have black sole shoes. Here is a screenshot of how long our conversation took.
It is a nice place for badminton lovers of all ages. The training program for the kids and teenagers really helps build up our next generation with a heavy living style and creates good bonding with like-minded people.
I came in last week to buy some new gear and received amazing service from Eddie. He is very knowledgeable about all the products and happily answered all my questions, as I am relatively new to this sport. I had some bad experiences at other local racquet stores in Calgary so I was happy to be helped by someone that clearly knows what they are doing. Keep it up!
The facility is so clean, great courts & amazing staff on top! We love coming here and being members. Kath at the front desk is super helpful and goes above and beyond to help us!
The facility is very well maintained. I started coming here in September last year and it has significantly improved since then! From court bookings, drop-ins, to racquet services, they excel in every aspect!
